I've been following the news on this star since it first made the news a few months ago. Although we understand the type of star it is and its elements, life cycle, and temperatures, something strange is going on.

As with mysteries of the origin of the universe or abiogenesis, it's better to admit ignorance and keep searching rather than declare an "aliens in the gap" or "God of the gaps."

The problem with searching for the alien explanation is largely the way we go about it. We assume they would use radio (unlikely) or lasers (just as unlikely) as opposed to methods and means beyond our ability to measure or detect.

Quite frankly if you're the chap building a Dyson's Sphere around a sun, you're probably not using something as slow and antiquated as radio anymore.

Perhaps a black hole is pulling the star apart?

Agreed. I would think advanced civilizations would communicate in ways we may not be capable of detecting. Or perhaps they use methods we CANT even conceive of.

I think that is one theory, but not likely due to the star's movement.

The black hole theory isn't likely because of the apparent stability of the star.

Considering how new all this Space Age stuff still is, it doesn't surprise me we see something we can't explain. By the end of this century, I imagine our current understanding of the Cosmos will be heavily updated, expanded, and such a mystery will be easily solved because we'll have seen more of the Cosmos, will have studied more of it, and we'll only have a better idea of what may be going on now.
