Mystic literature

SaintAugustine

At the Monastery
Catholicism is of course a hotbed for mysticism...St. Francis of Assisi, St. John of the Cross, Thomas a'Kempis, St. Teresa of Avila, Meister Eckhart to name just a few who seemed to stress direct experience of God. All of them wrote about their views.

Anything Zen, but particularly the writings of Han Shan, Sheng Yen, Hsu Yun, Taizan Maizumi, and Hsuan Hua. But in reality, any Buddhist text can be considered mystical.

Meister Eckhart is a favourite of mine.

Sufi literature has a wealth of good reads as well.

Coming from a Christian background, I've always liked St. John of the Cross, Thomas Merton, and some of the Eastern Orthodox mystics, like St. Symeon the New Theologian, St. Gregory Palamas, and St. Seraphim of Sarov.
