Oh I agree.I don't know much about him either, but I know enough to know he may not really be a suitable role model for anyone, and that's the point. He's damaged goods and making others more broken than him. It's good story to see such stories where evil is thoroughly punished, but in the real world it has entirely necessary to make laws to prevent law enforcement from doing what he does.
Captain America is a far better role model for them and his shield definitely better than Punisher's skull. Steve even has a legit mid-20 century America thing going on.
I would wager that Marvel agrees too.
And DC lol
Given there quite a few issues where the Punisher quite literally goes up to a bunch of police who have painted his logo onto their equipment and loudly berates them for stopping to his level. Even smashing up their equipment.
He basically begs them to be a positive force instead.
It’s indeed fun to read about justice being served through knuckle sandwiches.
But Marvel and indeed DC also routinely criticise idolising this behaviour as well. At least in their content aimed for older audiences
