Well, let's see...
The Constitution was designed and ratified by the same folks who designed and ratified the currency. May their idea of what is constitutional is different from yours...
Besides, the founding fathers secured for us the freedom of religion -- not the freedom from religion.

Currency is constantly redesigned.

Including redesigns like inserting useless religious language on the currency less than a century ago. A long time from the writers of the Constitution.

Well I guess let's shove religion down everyone's throat them, hm? As long as there aren't any atheists, we'll all get along great.

"God" has always been part of the US government in some way. Even today, sessions of Congress open with prayer. There's nothing wrong with that, so long as one particular religion isn't promoted as the only religion.

There is something wrong with it. Not everyone wants to waste their time praying. Respecting religions means also respecting those without religion.

Ever time I hand the clerk a $20 or higher they all was check it with the marker, and the Water Mark.
I guess I've just never really noticed. I don't actually use cash all that often, and seldom bother having bills bigger than a 20.

And what's up with still having a dollar bill? When I have a wallet full of bills, I expect to have a lot of money. It's so disappointing when I check it and realize that it's all ones. And there's no good reason why any civilized country should have to have bill readers on vending machines. :D
I agree. I actually really like the new dollar coins - they aren't ridiculously big like the Silver Dollar, and they are a different collor to distinguish them from the quarter. The Susan B. Anthony dollar was a big mistake.

Get rid of the dollar bill, and get rid of the penny.

At kfc we were supposed to mark $20 bills and higher with the marker, and $50 and $100 had to be shown to a manager to check for the water mark. Of course I knew how to check myself, so I usually didn't bother finding a manager when I was busy and had better things to do than act like a little kid who needed the all-powerful managers to tell me how to tell if a money was real...

The new gold colored ones with the pictures of Washington, Adams, Jefferson... not sure how many of them they've done so far... They've been out for a couple of years

There's also the Sacajewea (sp?) dollar coin. It's been out for quite a while.

I have one with Adams on it. The new coins(at lest the one I have) doesn't say "In God We Trust" on it.

Yeah they do - it's on the edge.

Looks like they are up to John Tyler. James K. Polk comes out in August.

A lot of people miss it. I get email forwards every so often about how I should boycott the coins because they don't have "In God We Trust" on them...

Anyone who's worried that their dollar coins aren't "Godly" enough can send them to me for disposal. PM me for the address. ;)

Just one guy
NBC has a poll out on if we should keep "In God We Trust" on our money? Maybe we need to change that to "In God and Allah We Trust" so the Muslims will not feel left out of our culture. Any comments?;)

Off topic, but what exactly does Allah mean? If I only spoke Arabic and were a Christian, would I use the word Allah for God? Or does the word Allah only apply to Islam? If so, what Arabic word would I use for God, being a Christian? For that matter, what word do Arabic translations of the Christian Bible use, where "God" is used in an English Bible?

I've got the Sacajawea one. I think that was near 2000 when they did that one. :D I collected all of the state quarters, even the District of Columbia one, which I wasn't aware of until I found it in my change earlier this week. I don't think I can afford to collect all of the presidents dollars though. :( Plus, I never see them circulating.

The problem with the words "In God We Trust" is that it is a theistic statement of faith. To remove these is not going to an atheistic position, but a neutral position. An atheistic position might be something like "In God We Don't Trust" or "Reason Over Faith".

That seemed to totally not answer a single thing I said. Why am I not surprised when people will ignore the constitution when it agrees with their theological beliefs?

I’ll pose the same comment again as a question. How did adding the phrase “in god we trust” to currency and altering the pledge to include similar have “a legitimate secular purpose”, something that is required by the Lemon test in order for such an action to be constitutional?
