I miss Carl Sagan!

Oh and the more Science-based shows on TV, the better!

EDIT: Not sure I like this trailer though, it seems a little over-the-top and trying too hard with "wooshy" CGI and the overly-dramatic music.

Yeah I love Neil deGrasse Tyson so I think that's fantastic.

He's the best person to pick to bring it back.

Are you excited for the follow-up to the original series presented by Carl Sagan? Why or why not?

Yes I am excited, because I think Neil deGrasse Tyson is hot as hell. He's intelligent too. :D

I love me some Neil deGrasse Tyson . Probably my favorite scientist of this day and age (sorry Dawkins fans. :D )

Meh, he's no Carl Sagan, but I'm generally for most science shows. Personally, I find him a bit bland and smarmy, but I understand he's trending among geeks and purported geeks.

I am not sure why, but Carl Sagan always appealed to me- since I was 13 and saw the first Cosmos. It was probably the best show in that genre. I felt the same way when I saw it on reruns on the science channel. I am hoping, when I watch the new one, if I can get the same kind of appeal.

I have a feeling this new version will be very different. Seth McFarlane is one of the executive producers and helped make the deal happen with Fox. Tyson has a style very different from Sagan. And entertainment has changed to rely heavily on CGI to tell the story.

That's okay. I'm excited too.

Cosmos - great. Neil DeGrasse Tyson - great. I am excited about this. Not very excited about it being on Fox though. I'm afraid they will either cancel it because it's educational, or give it the white-trash treatment. I have no doubt it will be good while it lasts though, and so long as Tyson is in charge of content.

This will be interesting, true. Sagan introduced an entire genre of educational programming based on the sciences and gave young geeks like me something to look forward to (okay, so I also really liked 3-2-1 Contact, but there's more educational programming for ya). It's entirely possible that Tyson's personality and humor might introduce the sciences to a new generation with wit and imagination.

I do have my hopes up for this series.

What? Me worry?
Absolutely. I still can't watch a floating dandelion seed without getting all goose-bumbly.

COSMOS. Seth MacFarlane. Neil deGrasse Tyson. Need we say more?

That's what scares me. I'm hoping for the best, but the skeptic/realist can't help but think Seth Macfarland pitched the idea in earnestness but the idiots at Fox just think "another family guy spin off" and it's going to be completely different from what they are expecting and they will cancel it or ruin it. Hopefully not, but we will still have Through the Wormhole and Nova if it doesn't work out.
