If your action is useful in all respects, but it reduces the likelihood of success many times (yes, even a million times), then feel free to do this action. Provided that the initial probability of success is very low (one percent or less). After all, there was no hope, only as to the God of Luck. Therefore, if you will be unpopular even more, then it's okay.

I'd suppose that is why politicians often fail. The most useful actions are never popular.

So no matter how thick the wall is or what it is made of, I should continue to beat my head against it, because it is teeny tiny speck of possibility I will break through?

But what if your action is useless and deranged?

Yeah, like the Black Night in Monty Pythons Holy Grail.

For example, many atheists (incorrectly) believe that atheism is better than some unfaithful (fake) theism. Therefore, the chances of avoiding hell will greatly decrease if you become a believer. But since the chance of avoiding hell dying as an atheist is incredibly small, then feel free to become some kind of believer. Since there was still no hope, then rely on Luck. It's all about Pascal's Wager.

Pascals wager is the most foolish idea ever.

1. You cannot make yourself believe.
2. What if you choose the wrong god?

I am looking for the paper, but he refutes Pascal's Wager coming to much the same conclusion as you noted about the possibility of accepting the wager and getting the wrong god.

If I find it, I'll pass a copy or link along.
Is this spreading the Gospel of Christ? You are helping atheists to be more atheistic.
