It bears repeating!!

But let me give a short tutorial on how to fix anything in the house.

  1. Check the bank account
  2. Open the yellow pages
  3. Select a local "fixer" of the problem (local because you can generally trust a neighbor where I live)
  4. Call the "listed fixer"
  5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for additional quotes
  6. Select the best quote and call him or her again
  7. Schedule an acceptible date and time for repair
  8. Write out a check

Just think of the Pah-sibilities!

You find a problem. Say it's a broken switchaduzit.

"Hey honey, what are we going to do about this switchaduzit?"
"Have you checked www.FixItBoard.com yet?"
'What a Frubalicious idea, hon! I'm on it!"

Der FixItBoard peopllles.
My wife broke our switchaduzit, whadda I do now?

Dear Pah,
We know you. You're the guy who stuck his knife in the toaster last year. Hire a pro you nincompoop, before you burn your house down. It should cost you 10 coins to fix.

"Hey hon, they say need a certified switchaduzit technician and it should only cost us 10 coins."
"That's nice dear. They are always so pleasant and helpful over there."
"They are evenworking on a list of switchaduzit technicians throughout the entire US.

Yeah, yeah, yeah!

Just this afternoon, I realized the limits of my "fix-it" capabilites.

Gail had dropped a rather long tweezer (for use in Chem Lab) into the dryer when trying to get out the lint that collects "beyond" the filter. The machine would do nothing!!!! Beening the resourceful internet guy I am, I went to the Amana web site and found a parts list for my model. It included a construction diagram showing all the parts. After study, I told Gail (and she agreed) that we would have to take off both front panels, the console and the top panel to get to the blower (where the tweezers were lodged). It was, frankly, a daunting prospect.

We decided to call a fixit guy this morning and he came out this afternoon. Within 30 mminutes, he had found the release catches on one panel, removed the door, and unscrewed the bottom fasteners for the bottom panel. Nothing like the diagram indicated. And we had our tweezers back and a working dryer.

Some people (ME!!!) are just not made to do mechanical things. You obviously have a different audience in mind than your's truely!!

Bob

P.S. Do you do housecalls? reasonably?

This looks like a great idea. I wish you all kinds of luck and success with it.
