New Here and Learning about other Religions

Hello All. I am new here and confused about religion so I am here to learn. I was born and raised Catholic, went to CCD, but it seems that Christianity doesn't match up with what I believe. Am I correct when I say Christians believe to get to Heaven you must accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior? Well, what about all non-Christians who were good, kind people that lived their lives helping other people?? And what about homosexuality? I honestly believe some people are born homosexual and there are others that choose it.

I am also currently reading the book, "When Bad Things Happen to Good People?" Anyone else read it?

Hello and welcome to FR!

Yes, many people wonder the same thing about Christianity and you are right, that is what Christians believe.

I have not read that book, though I think I've heard of it. Is it good?

Well, I hope you enjoy RF. Lots of interesting people and oncversations here :)

Hi Totcamry!

Yep. Christians do say that.

I had the same kind of thoughts cross over in addressing the issues regarding kindly people and those who follow their individual lifestyles. That form of incompatibility just does not fly with me. In my view, people simply were just too beautiful to throw away.

Welcome to RF.

Boy are YOU in the right place! I'll think you'll be able to find a number of people as disillusioned as you seem to be.
Welcome to the Forums, and good luck on your journey.

And, no, I haven't read the book, but I bet there's somebody here who has...

Greetings

Welcome! It seems a shame that you haven't been exposed to much religion other than christianity. Hopefully RF will provide what you need.

Good luck on your journey to Ourd :)

I'm Christian and my church and I believe that everyone will get an opportunity to accept Jesus as their Savior, if not in this life then in the life to come. You are right there will be non-christians in heaven. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints believe everyone will be given a chance.

Hello, welcome to RF!
I just want to say that I'm in a very similar situation. I was raised Christian (sort of, my parents only made us go to church on the holidays). Hopefully we can both find some good answers! :D

Welcome to the forums.

I'd say I fall in the same canoe as Metalic and you (Crap, I think its going to tip!), I was raised Non-Denominational Protestant/Catholic (Moms side/Dads side) and I find myself very disillusioned by many Abrahamic (Excuse the mispelling?) religions. Thought I've found something that works for me.

Good luck with your search.

But in the meantime, lets experiment with my new and improved molotov cocktail launcher in the canoe. Only breaks the bottles before launching 35% of the time now!

Welcome, may you find what you seek. I was also raised christian but never felt the religion was right, or at least not for me.

Hi

I'm sorry to hear you were raised a catholic and pleased to read that you are able to challenge its tenet. I have helped several catholics break away from the damaging effects of their 'belief'. I don't have much against personal belief but catholicism has blood on its hands to this day.
