From their next album due in the summer. It's not Master of Puppets, but it is promising. Definitely better than that last abomination they put out.

How long has it been since Metallica stopped a song to play the proper bass line?

I was a huge fan back in the 80's and early 90's. There might be a picture of me with a mullet and a Justice T-shirt to prove it but I'll never show it. I'm glad Metallica's still producing even though I haven't listened to them much since the black album. The second song linked is okay. A bit like the old times...

I'm getting old.:sad4:

Thanks for the heads up.

Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are what made Metallica my favorite band. The past decade and a half I've been waiting for something decent from them.

If they don't pull it off with this next album, I'll lose all hope. If Rick Rubin can't salvage them, then nobody can......but I like what I'm hearing so far. So I don't think I'll be dissapointed.

On a side note, Megadeth is putting out an album next month. Good to see metal making a comeback.

Metallica has put out nothing BUT abominations for along time. Black Album was the start of it.
I did read Kirk Hammet gave his approval of this album, so at least it will have soul to back up the guitar, rather than the "please shoot me now so I don't have to live with this mark of disgrace" that plagued St.Anger. He said it had more of a 'middle eastern/arabic' type of sound to it. I am gonna sit for hours though just so I can listen to those songs.

Wow, James looks different. Allthough upon discovering the 10 minute length, I am going to wait till tomorow to see it.

The Megadeth re-recording of A tout le monde, a duet with Cristina Scabbia, made my ears gush blood. The other song I've heard off of it, Gears of War, is awesome.

It should be a Man Law that Megadeth is to never record (or re-record) a song with a female singer......never.

Have you lstened to Sleepwalker? It's pretty thrashy. :jam:

Once they actually played the song instead of the crowd I liked it better than most past presentations (post- black album). Bottom line is I prefer the younger more raw Metallica, they played it we loved it why screw up a good thing? Slayer didn't, it was refined but it never strayed far from it's roots and that is what is important to me.

Honestly in my view Metallica has become just another "metal" band, but if they can make money, so be it, they made it.

Whats with all the st. anger rants? That album was awsome :D

Not really too keen on any of their other stuff though, it's the same thing with iron maiden, they both annoy the crap out of me!

I don't even consider them metal anymore. These new songs, allthough good, just seems to prove they have forever lost thier metal edge.
And Megadeth hasn't strayed from thier roots, save for breaking the newly enacted Man Law.

That's allright. Not everyone is a metal head.
Allthough if I make any references to St. Anger, it must be a negative one, or else the metal gods will strike me dead.

Agreed. I like these new songs. Heck, the album that first pulled me towards Metallica was Load *Note- This was before I had heard Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets, which forever had an impact on my musical tastes*. But Metallica had raised the bar and set a standard for themselves. If they make something that is less than what they have done in the past, it's not good by their standards that they've set.

Agreed. On top of the bad music, it sounded like it was recorded in a garage on a cassete player. Sorry Darkpenguin, I just can't help myself. :(

And not too mention Kirk Hammet told James Hetfield he absolutly hates playing the nu metal guitar riffs, and didn't want it to be a part of the album. And then they didn't even have a real bassist for the album, which has always been a central driving force behind thier music. I don't like bragging, but I could've done bass for them a hellova lot better than there producer did.

Lamb of God is great. Them and Hatebreed are the only reasons I'm going to Ozzfest, since I'm counting on Ozzy to skip the Indy date again.
I've never cared for Ramsteing that much though.

And while were on the subject of metal, I just learned Iced Earth first formed in Indiana, under the name Purgatory. It is nice to know this state has produced someone musically significant that you don't mind claiming is from your own hometown.

They were terrible, they made me cringe. They just can't make music anymore. Ever since the black album they're never been able to make anything decent after that. Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and Justice for All are legendary and I don't think they'll be able to make anything like them ever.
I just wish they'd stop making music. Not like they need the money.

Kill 'em all was also a good, which also has a bass solo of a godly magnitude, and inspired me to play bass.

I was watching some recent videos of Metallica playing their old songs. I've noticed that Kirk seems to have forgotton the solos he composed for many of his old songs. Instead he just seems to be freestyling.....horrible freestyling at that. They don't even go along with the songs. Being a shredder myself, this is quite dissapointing and at the same time, kind of annoying. *Sigh* I miss the old days.

Ahh...the curse of the bass player. Yeah, Bob Rock did a bad job playing bass. What I don't understand is why they still haven't released "And Justice For All" with audible bass lines after all these years. It's not like it would kill them or anything.

When I saw Metallica a few years ago during the Madly in Anger with the World tour, Kirk was playing the right solos, but alot of the faster ones, mainly the end riffs for One, he played them much, much slower than the album speed. Curse time and age for having this effect.

Yeah, Bob Rock did a bad job playing bass.
I think I will refer to him as 'Bob "Pop'" just for the overall sound of The Album That Should Not Be. Actually, I don't think that mockery will do since it's associating both the older songs and Lovecraft with a horrible waste of everything that cd consumes.
Seriously, I've heard Nu-metal groups that sound heavier and more metal than St. gonnahangmyselfifihavetolistentoanythingoffitanymore. And sadly, one of the local alternative radio stations FREQUENTLY played the songs Frantic and St. Anger.

What I don't understand is why they still haven't released "And Justice For All" with audible bass lines after all these years. It's not like it would kill them or anything.
I would like to think that maybe they were afraid Newsted would embarrass them, due to the fact Cliff Burton was such as great, even godly bassist, that Newsted might ruin thier image.
