New Mexico Sherriff Will Not Enforce Governors Firearms Ban

Seems that the Bernalillo County Sheriff will not enforce the Governors firearms ban in Benalillo county New Mexico.
I for one also agree that this is an unconstitutional act by the governor along with those on both sides of the political spectrum
And to satisfy our leftwing members

Anyone who believes that having more guns in circulation makes us safter is about five beers short of a six pack.
Listen. More guns make you safe. It just makes sense. America is the only country in the world that has more guns than people alright. So the fact that we also are the only country in the world that have regular mass shootings is ..........um..........hmmm. Let me go ahead and run those numbers again just to be sure. No...no this can't be...no. wait...

But in all seriousness more guns typically means more gun violence. Statistically gun violence is worse than other kinds of violence. More fatal and impacts more people.

But at the same time I don't know if there is anything that can be done in the USA anymore about guns. If there was an opportunity to get guns under control I'm pretty sure we've past it. City and county wide bans don't work and we know this.

If this went through the State Congress, I would applaud it. But she can't use a public health emergency for something like this. It is not going to help because it is just not going to work.

I'm English by birth and have lived in the USA for 30 years or so.

I no longer have any hope that the gun problem will be solved, because it seems to me that to do so we would have to get rid of all guns in private hands (with some exceptions). To do that, we need to remove or dramatically reinterpret the 2nd Amendment. In my experience, even people here that are totally shocked by mass shootings mostly still support the 2nd Amendment, why I can never understand, but they do.

Because in their mind they think
"oh god...a mass shooter. I need to make sure I have my gun on me to protect myself if I ever see one."

Hats off to the sheriff. It's good to see law enforcement that is cognizant of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

I would love to see a country completely disarmed and see how long it lasts without any firearms.

In a specific location it can if enforced.

No, it can't. It doesn't prevent anyone from buying or selling firearms. It also only lasts 30 days.

Maybe he doesn't like seeing so many innocent people dying.

I think almost everyone hates seeing innocent people die. The question is how to effectively and legally prevent that from happening when possible.

The Sherriff's job is to ENFORCE the law. It's up to the courts to decide whether or not the law is Constitutional. This is shameful overreach, and dereliction of duty.

The Constitution is the law. Not some turncoat Judge.

The Sheriff is smart enough to recognize an illegal order and is in his rights to refuse to follow illegal orders.
