I've guess I've been on this site before but it's been a long time. I belong to a study group and we are studying the bible. I've been studying it for about a half year and we have about 7 or 8 months left. I am ready to pull my hair out because everything in the Old Testament is "God said to do it" no matter what it is. I just can't buy it. I'm a very logical thinker and it just doesn’t make any since to me. I’ve read the book many time but it’s been about 15 years since I’ve read it and now I’m 66 years old and it don’t make any since to me. I’m studying it with about a half a dozen other people who believe that every word in the bible is written by God and I believe it was written by man. I tell them what I thank in a nice way and they have been very nice to me but I’m thinking of study Buda’s teaching. I know I can believe in God and study Buda’s teaching at the same time. I go by lostsoul and that fits me to a tee.

Welcome, lostsoul.
Have you considered bringing some of these questions about various passages with a Catholic or Orthodox priest, or OT stuff with a rabbi? There may be interpretations that are being overlooked by others in the group.

Religious beliefs are accepted without facts, logic, or common since. They are just taken by faith. An example: A sergeant in the Army is told by his captain to go kill a 10 year old girl, so if you do this without question that makes you a bad person. If you ask why and make your own common since judgment that makes you a good person. Now your told to go in and kill all the women and children because some man tell you God said so and you do that, you are a bad person. Young men are very violent creatures, (I'm a Viet Nam vet) so when someone say "Go kill everyone because God says so or because of this or that and your not at war with them that makes you a bad person. So in my opinion you believe that some man says in the old testament "Kill everyone because of this and that" and again these people did nothing to you then that makes you a, well there you have it.
