NEWS: Apple murders Amazon, UN Declares genocide

Sell your Amazon stocks people. Apple is going to commit mass murders on Amazon's Kindle. The IPAD was revealed today and it's going to be awesome. Starts at $499, 10 inches of screen real estate, all the features you can imagine, hundreds of thousands of apps, under 2 pounds in weight, 10 hours battery life. :thud::faint:

Simply put, it will completely butcher the Kindle in all its function and utility. It outperforms and outclasses it within the same budget averages. IPAD is going to be way more fun to read books on, plus it has everything Kindle won't -- music, videos, internet access, multi-touch, applications, e-mails, calendar.

WARNING: This thread is not meant to give stock advice. If you take it as such and sell your Amazon stocks, you can thank me later.

I'll wait till Photoshop is available for it. I use that everyday.

If IPAD has bluetooth feature, that'll be icing on the cake. Imagine how streamlined it would be to have bluetooth mouse and keyboard for graphics applications.

This is Apple. They always win. Especially in this case.

They have a huge client base and following in the millions of Iphone, IMAC, Itouch, and IPOD users. The IPAD will cross market to all those demographics and new areas which they couldn't touch before. IPAD will destroy and capitalize on the e-books share of Amazon's KINDLE. The sex appeal and utility is just too great for customers of KINDLE To not pay an extra hundred to get the IPAD. Plus, the demographic of KINDLE are not the cash strapped -- they're the middle class and up that are likely to have higher disposable incomes to blow a few hundred on e-book reading device. The technology isn't that costly so profit margins are probably higher with IPAD than KINDLE so they can potentially undercut or match KINDLE's price. IPAD uses all the proprietary technologies coming out of the IPHONE, Itouch, etc. KINDLE was a new platform. R&D Cost is much lower as a result.

It doesn't, it only has USB and wifi, no firewire or bluetooth.

Knowing Apple, they probably already have something higher that will replace laptops but they don't want to do that because they will hurt their own line of MACS. But, I think they will eventually come out with some hybrid of IPAD that's more akin to laptops. I'm thinking bluetooth, firewire, some kind of integrated stand to keep it up on a table, camera options for video chat, real OS and applications to support photoshop and other applications.

It doesn't need to be 2 pounds, I'll take 3 if it comes with all of that and longer battery life.

You know this post REALLY sounds like it came from a student that goes to Berkley. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but almost like a marketing/economics major, maybe with a minor in international business.??????

I heard that it is powerful enough to support Photoshop, but it is up to the software companies to scramble and get the software ready.

amazon is the no1 online retailer in the world....

Don't get me wrong, Amazon is a great business model. I shop there all the time. But their Kindle product will be made obsolete. With enough sales, Apple should be able to lower their entry price even lower within a year or two and completely take over Kindle's market share. Amazon won't be able to adapt its product line to match or outperform Apple, feature wise and business wise.

lol, I got a bit too excited about the product I guess.

Political science, as a matter of fact, but I do plan on going to law school and getting the law degree + business masters combo. :thud:

I agree. I don't know how much processing power they can have in there when it weights like 1.5 pounds and thats including battery. Pretty amazing stuff.

The screen is bright enough and the graphics processor is probably up to par. I hope they have that support too. I do a lot of photography and I need my photoshop too!

It'll be exciting and hopefully they do meaning things to it instead of making it a giant ITouch.

One thing I always did dislike about Apple is their sort of despotic and neurotic tendencies on controlling how much feature their user can get out of their devices like Iphone, I touch, etc.

Your fever for explaining these models, reminded me of my marketing classes when I began understanding how all that stuff worked!

Really neat stuff.

For $500 you get a giant iTouch that can read books.

lol! It's giant. Steve Jobs knows what attracts men: bigger toys. He also knows what attracts women: a giant $500 black screen they can use to check their make-up all the time.

Done here.
I wouldn't start planning the Kindle's funeral just yet.

There are still some problems with the Kindle, and they're not insignificant problems. That's why I haven't bought one yet. However, people buy a Kindle to read with. They don't buy it to play games, listen to music, or send emails.

I'm not convinced the iPad will offer any better functionality as a reader than the Kindle. Kindle's "e-paper" is easier on the eyes and consumes less energy. The iPad's 10-hour battery life is a fraction of the Kindle's. And the difference in price isn't a hundred dollars, either. At $259, the Kindle costs a little more ($9.50 more) than half the price of the cheapest iPad, and less than a third of the price of a top-of-the-line iPad.

I don't think the iPad is going to be appealing to people who just want a reader. It's going to be appealing to people who'd rather have a tablet computer than a laptop or a netbook, and to Apple loyalists who are always excited about a new Apple toy.

But I don't see it as a serious threat to the Kindle.

You make some good points, but I disagree. I think Kindle has just been given the death sentence in the status quo. They can certainly survive - Amazon is the biggest e-commerce site and they can fight back by lowering the price, offer combo packs, more discounts on books bought from Kindle, etc. I can see them surviving marginally longer if they take some serious steps.

But I think Apple got them cornered. Granted the entry model is twice the price of the Kindle, that still doesn't change the fact that the market is trending in dual-use or multi-use devices. You can see this in the steadily climbing sales in smart phones and stagnation or decrease in sales with regular functions or no functions. Apple also proved this notion with their very successful lines of Iphone and Itouch. People want all things in one.

I think it's more than likely that the Apple Ipad's entry level will kill market shares for Kindle and it's higher priced models will appeal more to laptop users looking for streamlined platforms or as alternative to users whose budgets can't afford the cheapest MAC starting at $1000. The demographic for Kindle is the same type of demographic for the IPAD. Apple products are uniquely intuitive in user friendly applications so even older customers will find it more than accessible. Why wouldn't a potential Kindle customer (who has $250 to blow on a device that's primarily an e-book) spend a few hundred more instead on a device that will also replace their laptop?

Worst case scenario, it's the cheapest Apple laptop.

Yeah... I'm thinking that if I'm going to spend $500 and cart around a 10-inch pad, it'd better be able to replace my laptop.
