No early warning system for East coast USA

Jaymes

The cake is a lie
Earthquakes aren't a big problem on the east coast anyway, are they? If there aren't any earthquakes, we shouldn't have to worry about tsunamis..

our tectonic plate in the atlantic is a divergant plate (two side pulling away making new land) not a convergant plate (two sides pushing into each other one sinking under)or a tansform plate(where two plates slide against each other). Thus we are less prone to tsunami. The most likely senario is that an underwater landslide could produce a small scale tsunami. There has been at least one east cost tsunami, in 1929 in Newfoundland Canada 51 people were killed by a tsunami with a wave height of 40ft.
There is evidence that this kind of tsunami may happin off the coast of Virginia.
Florida and the Gulf states also faces some risk from the caribbean plate.
