Jesus is still a revered figure in Islam and Bahaism, and the notion of Jesus being not real would toss their entire worldview out of the window, and I guess the mere thought is very frightening judging by the reactions.

Except the thought never enters the mind and the concern will never be for me. It will always be for those that are yet to consider what they will have to come to terms with.

I would say that whomever came up with that idea is ignorant of science and how it works, or a liar.

You cannot prove a negative with archeological evidence.

Proving a negative - Wikipedia

Ah, the archeological evidence consisted of detailed plans, with bunches of supporting evidence, that went into fabricating the Baby Jesus--to--Resurrection Story in AD68 so as to win the annual Antioch Messiah Myth Competition.

If the question makes you uncomfortable, just move on. Don't make a silly display of dancing around it.

The question is nonsensical. Anyone that understands how evidence works, knows you can't prove a negative with physical evidence. It's impossible. Go back to high school science class.

I came upon this question on a YouTube video and thought I'd pass it along..

"What if archeological evidence came to light showing that Jesus never existed. Moreover, the evidence is clear that no one even like Jesus ever existed. There was no prophesied Messiah.

Would you

1. Go on believing in him

2. Switch to a Judaism

3. Look elsewhere for spiritual support

4. Drop religion altogether

Why?

.

I'm not sure that I would pick any of these choices. But in the given scenario, I don't think confirming Jesus' non-existence would have much effect on my life one way or another.

On the other hand, if news of the non-existence of Jesus were to spread, then all the Christian churches would have no other option but to shut down.

"Welp, it looks like we've been wrong all this time. I guess we might as well close up shop and shutter our doors."

If Jesus never existed, IOW, never gave His perfect life as a ransom....

then humans will always be dying, and probably destroy themselves -- and a good chance the Earth, too -- within the next 200 years.

Honestly, I don't know what I would do. I do know that I'd have to examine that "evidence", myself.

I'd say one can't prove non-existence, and I'd still believe there really was some ancient Jewish rabbi named Jesus who preached about the ancient tribal Jewish deity Yahweh in Galilee during the early part of the First Millennium.

Wait... So you were suggesting that you wouldn't exist if a particular desert fable didn't turn out to be a historical account? Is that what you were trying to say?
No, I was suggesting that you wouldn´t exist if survival of the fittest was true.

No, I was suggesting that you wouldn´t exist if survival of the fittest was true.

What a weird, nonsensical non sequitur. "Survival of the fittest" describes the mechanism of natural selection. The biological concept of fitness is defined as reproductive success. Seeing that I'm still alive and have successfully procreated, you're incorrect.
But none of that has anything at all to do with whether or not some random desert fable has any historic foundation.

Buddha might not have existed, it wouldn't change one damn bit of Buddhism if he didn't. Same with Christianity.

I don't need Jesus. I just need a higher power which I call God. As long as it is there for me, I am very happy. It has worked in my life for many years with or without Jesus. And I don't want to be Jewish because God is love. God does not kill people off as happened so many times in the Old Testament. So, my God does not come from any particular religion. I only say God because it is a three letter, one syllable word-easy to say. It (it is not male or female) is the higher power, the light or whatever has supernatural power and helps in this world and all worlds.

So, a man who never existed, has had a major influence on hundreds of countries, and billions of people within 2,000 years?

I don't think so.

Except for the 2000 year part you could be talking about Santa Claus. Guess that means the jolly old elf actually does exist. Who'd a thunk?

I would 4. Drop religion altogether because the only reason I even HAVE a religion at all is because I am a Baha'i...
But if Jesus never existed then that would mean Baha'u'llah was a liar, because He said of Jesus:

“Know thou that when the Son of Man yielded up His breath to God, the whole creation wept with a great weeping. By sacrificing Himself, however, a fresh capacity was infused into all created things. Its evidences, as witnessed in all the peoples of the earth, are now manifest before thee. The deepest wisdom which the sages have uttered, the profoundest learning which any mind hath unfolded, the arts which the ablest hands have produced, the influence exerted by the most potent of rulers, are but manifestations of the quickening power released by His transcendent, His all-pervasive, and resplendent Spirit.”

That's right. There would be no foundation upon which to build the Baha'i Faith if Jesus never came because Jesus prepared the way for Baha'u'llah. Jesus also prepared the way for Islam, so Islam would not exist either.

I am not frightened because there is no question as to whether Jesus existed.
