I'm leery about checking out the new Night Court, don't know if I want any potential disappointment. Anyone checked it out/going to?

I watched the original when it was still on. It was a decent show. Didn't know they were remaking it.

I guess they must just run out of ideas and have to keep rehashing old stuff.

From that clip, not my type. It seemed very bland and dry.
Happy birthday. Hope you can squeeze another good hour from it.

They're not remaking it. It's a reboot/continuity thing. Only one original character seems to be returning, John Larroquette's Dan Fielding. And instead of Harry Anderson's judge Harry Stone it'll be Stones daughter on the bench.

Fielding seems to be going from a narcissistic misogynist to just being a narcissistic misanthrope. I guess he got partly woke. lol

I happened to see an interview with an actress that had a several episode role on the original Nigh Court series. She said it was the worst show she's ever worked on, as the cast were very rude and caustic ... except for John Larroquette. She said he was friendly and respectful. And this was a well known and very experienced actress, not some upstart or newbe that other actors might feel they had a right to haze.

I suspect it was some form of an early version of the Rosanne vibe. We laugh at it from the outside, but we wouldn't want to actually be living in it.

Two different views.
- Nothing new under the Sun.
- Many new ideas for shows.

I really liked "Fleischman Is In Trouble".
Clever, novel, entertaining, wry humor.
Just started "Last Of Their Kind".
Creepy, engaging, interesting premise.
Still watching re-runs of Mike Tyson Mysteries.
Great show. Mike is a skilled deadpan comic.

Yeah, although in this case, it seems they're just trying to cash in on the nostalgia for the old show and pull in new audiences. Kind of like what J.J. Abrams did to Star Trek and Star Wars.

I don't really watch TV as much as I used to.

People are always re-making things. Example...
The classic...The Maltese Falcon was a re-make of a re-make.
But there are original approaches too.
I counter your JJ Abrams pablum with The Expanse.
Which attracts your attention more.

I've seen every episode and it's simply not good. I'm amazed it's been given a second season. Normally I would have passed on a show like this by the third episode but I gave it a chance because the original Night Court also had a rough start and went through multiple characters until they found the classic cast of Harry, Dan, Christine, Mac, Bull, and Roz. I was hoping that would be the case here but after a full season, I see no improvement short of firing the show runner and the entire writing staff and recasting all new characters, with the exception of the main character, Abby, and Dan.

The idea for Abby (she's Harry's daughter) isn't a bad choice but the writing is so gawd-awful that isn't saying much. The other characters are one-dimensional with none showing any potential. John Larroquette is a great comedic actor but even he can't save this show and the older Dan Fielding is, of course, different from his earlier self which makes sense but also necessary in today's climate: if you watch some of the old series when Dan's going at full tilt it's clear that character would never fly in our current era of everyone being offended by everything. It's fine that the character has mellowed a lot in the past few decades, who doesn't change over time? But he's not given anything to work with other than occasionally jabbing at those around him for being clueless. There are times that are nice when Abby turns to him for advice when she needs a father figure (like Harry Anderson, Harry Stone has passed) and Dan softens to be there for her since he was very fond of Harry (which is the only reason he, the character, agreed to return to night court).

Sadly, I can't recommend it. Hopefully, the reboot of Fraiser goes much better (fingers crossed).
