No one cares

Aren’t people that always have to be the center of attention annoying? Or always commenting when no one cares. Ugh. Just be quiet.

Could that be confused with passion for a thing...meebee?

I'm at a desk job during the week, and while it's technical, not having a distraction of some kind would drive me nuts, so yeah, I was top poster yesterday in my other forum. Past 11,000 posts there in only a few years. In another music DAW forum I was at over 75,000 posts. Mostly small tech stuff and jib jabs. There is a chief poster there who will probably die in between posts at his computer. That forum was bought out and changed software, so all of my posts went away and I had to start over there.

I liked getting to know people, even though I'm not especially social in real life. It never even occurred to me some may have thought I was trying to get attention. I believe prolific posters will probably be seen in that light.

I just signed on seriously here, but doubt there will be a repeat of my other experiences for various reasons.

I never assume top posters are needing attention... merely that they're blessed with much free time!

Nice to meet you.
Yes I would certainly use that word "blessed".

I even see the fight for attention in animals. My two dogs will fight to be the first to be scratched and petted. Technically it probably isn't jealousy.
Maybe closer to competitive.

Probably some truth to the idea that there are those who want to be "front runners" for whatever reasons. I ended up being a front runner with no intent to do so. In fact, I would really prefer not to be getting some invisible prize for spending too much time on the internet lol.

Our best point of reference is probably "us", so we tend to talk about ourselves, but at some point a mature person will recognize the narcissistic nature of always thinking inwardly, never trying to gain all the empathy possible. There is much to be gained in talking to, becoming interested in, and learning from others.

Nice to meet you, too. :)

Free time oughta not be taken for granted! :D Nor is it a bad thing that one should be ashamed of...

I've got a couple dogs, and a herd of cats. It happens. Competition, and jealousy.

For some people, there is a need for attention. We often look at that as a character flaw, but I don't think it always is. Most folks require some level of communication with others in order to stay happy. It could be they're just filling that need.

What if it was a real prize? :D

If I'm being totally honest with myself, I like occasional attention, but then I want to crawl back in my hole unnoticed. As I'm thinking about this, I am wondering if some of this has to do with performance and expectations. I say this because I am going outside a comfort zone and I know I can't keep anything social up for very long. Short duration is ok, but long term expectations? I can't do it and I know this. In being by myself there is noone to try to connect with and no performance or expectations are needed. I tend to like paths of least resistance. One or two people I know well. I'll love their company for awhile, then it's let me alone.

Others, maybe like the person you described, love that kind of thing. Not me.
What if it was a real prize? :D

I would be a wealthy man.
