Ditto, but with the exception of the police in our home.

BTW, if I kept a loaded gun in our house, I would have a dead son as of when he was a teen as he suffers from bipolar disorder. Now, he's in his mid-40's and owns his own business, has a delightful wife and a beautiful daughter.

Ya know, it's not required (or even wise) to keep guns out in the open.
If you really wanted one, store it in a safe. That's what I do.

In my home, I have a rule that no weapons are allowed, and this has not been a problem for police or military personnel. The few times the police have visited my home, they left their weapon in the police car when i told them that I do not accept weapons in my home.

The military(only one-time visited) left one guy downstairs with the weapons when two guys followed med up to my home.

Why do some people get shocked when they hear this kind of thing?

What do you cut food with?

Shock? The examples you provided are in situations which are not about violence nor warrants. Ergo you are in control not the cops. If the situation was one of violence and/or warrants the cops would have told you "No" as both supersede your exercising of property rights.

To me it really seems like a disagreement on how you exercise your rights in relation to non-criminal interactions with cops. It just seems odd type of disagreement. The only alternative I can think of is it is a knee jerk reaction in the vein of being anti-gun as you ban firearms. Which misses the point of exercising one's rights in their home.

It may have already been asked but why are the police and military coming to your house?

I'm sort of curious why armed police and soldiers (!) are showing up at your door. Just for context, where do you live that this is an issue?

Yer can leave ya tank on the drive..... it ain't comin' in 'ere!
Bloody tanks!
We used to be allowed to crush car wrecks we found in the bush on exercise. Carriers would climb on top and crush them, the ol' leopards would just walk straight through them. The practice was stopped in ~'97 when, after the 5th carrier of the XLH troop did a pivot turn on the remains of the flattened pancake that were left of the abandoned car they'd been playing with, the owner of the erstwhile "abandoned" car appeared from a nearby bush track, jerry can in hand...

Your post kinda reminded me of that.
