In response to several of our members requesting that the rules governing DIRs be clarified to specify how many DIR selections are permitted each member, RF Rule #10, section II, has been amended. The amending language is highlighted in bold red below:

10. Debating in Non-debate Forums or Posting in DIR/ONLY Forums
Religious forums is structured to provide spaces for many different kinds of conversations. Different kinds of conversations belong in different areas of the forum:

1) Debates should be kept to the debate areas of the forums, including Religious Debates, General Debates, and Political Debates. Debating anywhere other than these forums may result in moderation. Same Faith Debates is governed by special rules described here. Only members of the specified groups(s) can participate in these threads.

2) All DIR (Discuss Individual Religions) forums are for the use of members who identify with those groups or practices. Debating is not permitted in DIRs; debates between members of specified groups should be posted in Same Faith Debates. A member may select up to a maximum of three (3) DIRs with which they identify. A member may change their selection of DIRs at any time, but the total number of DIRs selected must never exceed three (3). Members who do not identify with a DIR group may only post respectful questions; we recommend creating a thread in the Religions Q&A instead where there is more freedom to comment. DIR forums are not to be used as a cover to bash others outside of the DIR group.

3) The Political World forum has several "only" subforums that are for the use of members who identify with those political leanings. Members who do not identify with those political leanings are not allowed to post there.

Can I suggest something?

Instead of respectful questions could you do respectful conversation? It would be easier for questions to be address properly if the questioner can comment on the other person's answer.

That's the way it was in the green forums.
I liked it. The Buddhists were a nice bunch.
(That must be why staff axed the greens.)

Prefixes have been problematic.
I was told that a "libertarian feminist" is not a feminist (cuz we don't oppose sex work).
A "state capitalist" is a socialist (per RF definitions).
A "left libertarian" is very different from a "libertarian" aka "right libertarian", &
wouldn't be at home in either Ameristanian or Canuckistanian Libertarian Party.

I noticed. "Anarcho Communist" was the trigger that caused me to break the DIR rule (first and only time).

No one seemed to notice my eight (I think) subscriptions, and for TWO YEARS, perhaps because I didn't post much or anything in any of them. :D

I hadn't noticed (ie read) this rule and had blithely ticked the ones I might be interested in, which was more than three. I noticed the rule one day and adjusted accordingly.

It appears to me that the prefix situation isn't systematic.
Enforcement seems to be about clique membership,
rather than agreement or proper conduct within the forum.

I got smacked by a mod recently for it - trousers down and all. :D

That might be rather difficult to do if members have to use the DIR slots to ask respectful questions. Who is going to answer? I've been called a troll in my own (Buddhist) DIR for honestly answering a question!

Being called a troll for answering in a DIR, wow!

I was snapped at once for going into a Hindu DIR after going to a Hindu temple. I guess too many go to Hinduism but degrade it by picking it a part or something. Maybe everyone who looks at religions outside their own does that to this situation's respects. I'm not sure.

But questions in DIRs would go like this if there isn't an answer and description on both sides involved:

Can you tell me about buddhism?
What do you need to know?
Can you tell me about Mara?
Can you give some detail?
Isn't Mara a demon who tempted Buddha?
If you mean in the devil/jesus christ way, no. Is that what you mean?
If I say no, can you give me the true teaching?
Sure. Expand on what you want to know?
Can you tell me....?

I'd get irritated and just don't asks questions. Some people just want answers from that said religion rather than a boast of people who studied, former, or interested have to comment.

I think, though harsh, skip the questions in DIRs and just ask them in Interfaith (if so be) because if there is no back and forth convo in DIRs, the person who ask the question can't learn anything he can't read on his own.

Yup.

A little known secret...

The staff has a report we always keep open entitled "What @Revoltingest likes." It facilitates the practice of systematically removing anything in the forum he's in favor of.

We're in the process of voting to add the word "bacon" to the language filter.

We don't actively screen DIR selection. People flag themselves when they post in a DIR with whose group they do not identify.

"A member may select up to a maximum of three (3) DIRs with which they identify. "
This may be a silly question
:
But how to do it? I mean how to select the DIRs?

Hover over your name in the upper right hand corner of the page and select 'personal details.' Scroll down a bit and you'll find the DIR check boxes.

I just want to put it out there for those that are questioning why they cannot participate in discussion with members of a DIR...

DIRs, in their current iteration, exist so members of a DIR group can interact socially online amongst themselves without concern for criticism by members outside of their group. They remain in public view so others may observe and learn.

We do allow members outside of the group to ask respectful questions and "listen" to the responses. We even allow follow-up questions. But if you wish to engage members of a particular group in discussion, you should post in Religions Q&A instead. If you want responses from those of a specific group only, simply add "[RELIGION] ONLY:" to the title. You will then have the ability to openly (and respectfully) engage those in a group in discussion without outside interference, as such a thread is treated as a DIR that the thread author may also participate in.

I will also add that just because one has a DIR checked does not automatically give them license to post freely in a DIR, for example, if a Hindu chooses to select Neopagan or Revival Religions DIR as one of their DIRs, they will still be subject to moderation under Rule 10 if they post in the Heathenry DIR. One should only openly participate in a DIR if they identify as that group.

I haven't been able to figure that out (although I haven't asked, just poked around the web a bit).

Under the previous owners we were part of Whipp Media: https://www.dnb.com/business-direct...dia_llc.17a72527f8190ace155937366676b1ac.html

I'm not sure if the new owners just bought RF or if they bought the whole company.
Wait...are you trying to tell me that when one reaches admin status, one doesn't receive all the secret knowledge of the realm?
In other words, no one knows who owns the site?
