nuns vs. the catholic church

“Maybe we are facing a new and different kind of epoch in the church’s history where Christianity will be characterized more by the mustard seed, where it will exist in small, seemingly insignificant groups that nonetheless live an intensive struggle against evil and bring the good into the world-that let God in,” he told Peter Seewald in an interview for the book, "Salt of the Earth: Christianity and the Catholic Church at the End of the Millenium."

Extract:

The Vatican report said that at an annual gathering of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, guest speakers who preached "radical feminism" went unchallenged. The report also alleged sins of omission, saying the nuns were too focused heavily on social justice and not enough on opposing abortion, euthanasia and same-sex marriage.

WHAT? :areyoucra

WHAT?!! WHAT?!!

They are focused too heavily in social work???TOO HEAVILY?

 What a pathetic disgrace of a criticism

Why would you want to help people when you can just get political? Freaking insane

Never mind the fact that social justice started in Catholicism and SHOULD be a priority of all Catholics! This is pure lunacy. I love the Catholic Church, I realy do, but they really have their heads where the sun don't shine sometimes.

I'm not so sure. I think the Vatican's position is generally consistent with Church teachings. For instance, if same-sex marriage is an issue where people's immortal souls hang in the balance, then it stands to reason that it's much more important than some social justice issue where it's merely a person's mortal life that is at risk, and if he dies, he'll go to Heaven anyhow.

Don't get me wrong: I'm very happy when anyone fights for social justice, but I think that these nuns probably aren't on the sturdiest of theological grounds in prioritizing things the way they have.

What priorities was Jesus putting forward with the "Good Samaritan" example.?

The "Church" has established its own set of priorities based on sin equivalance, rather than the needs demonstrated through Jesus teachings.
