In response to Barbara Walters remark to Piers Morgan's during the Piers Morgan Live show that Obama isn't the messiah that they(?) thought he was going to be Walters Comment I thought that this cartoon was quite apropos. In addition why "We" not "I", or who is "We"

Nope, Barrack Obama is just a man who was elected to two terms as President of The United States of America.

You're so correct here. Barbara doesn't speak for the Democratic party nor does she speak for Progressives. She may have wanted Obama to be the "next Messiah"...but that's not how many of us viewed this ordinary man....shucks, if he's the new Messiah...then maybe congress is Lazarus and he can bring them back to life....sadly...No....

Where does this urban legend that there are people who mistook Obama for some sort of Messiah originate again?

On related news, there are reliable reports that he is not white either.

Obama had a large cult following here. Usually, when people support a prez candidate, they have the feeling that they're "settling". Obama was different. He inspired great admiration & hope because of his racial background, circumstances, youth, good looks, & polished progressive speeches. This is why so many are so disappointed at his turning out to be more of the same old same old, & a bungler to boot, ie, a mere human politician. (Awoon got it right.)

On related news, there are reliable reports that he is not white either.
He's half & half.

Still, saying that he was seen as a Messiah is such an exageration. I'm not sure it would fit any historical POTUS, even.

Those who thought that should have come to me and I might have helped such fools. No he is not, nor is he a Guru, nor savant, nor yogi, nor Swami, and what happened to his dog? I am worried for that doggie, Obama is not even a master of his dog, the poor pooch.

No one thinks he's the messiah or whatever. That was drummed up by right-wing outlets to paint him that way. These outlets would lie to their listeners and tell them that Democrats view him as the messiah, when in reality it never was. It started with the birther movement.

Obviously no one thought he was litterally the messiah. However many many people had high high hopes for him (me included) who was let down by many of his actions. He isn't a "terrible" president but he isn't a "great" one either. He inherited one of the ********* situations in our nation's recent history so its hard to judge how he would have done under more normal circumstances.

I can agree with your point. I also want to point out that the cast of characters in the Senate and House haven't helped much either. The majority of the things we would like him to be able to do requires going through these guys....
