Any suggestions or ideas? Somebody should start an official religion based entirely on Chaos Magick and call it the Occult of Chaos, eh? Just an idea.

There used to be a group out there called the Church of Chaos, but I don't think they're around anymore. Besides Magic, be it Chaos Magic or Black Magic or whatever is not a religion as the practice of Magic does not require dogma or belief in or worship of a god.

Religion doesn't require dogma or worship of gods either. *raises eyebrow*

As Gjallarhorn said, it runs the risk of defeating the purpose. However, you can organize a religious structure that is permeable and flexible so it would accommodate the kind of paradigm-shifting chaos magic requires. The Unitarian Universalists are a perfect example of this. They're unified by some basic common principles, but beyond that they're a mixing pot of all sorts of religious/spiritual/philosophical paradigms. They provide the resources for people to explore their own paths as they see fit, and an order oriented around chaos magic could do much the same thing.

Personally, I wouldn't reinvent the wheel. I'd just draw on the resources of UU, Neopaganism, and the existing occult communities instead.

Are you just talking about PC's books?
Don't forget about 'The Ice Magic War' and other hilarities.

OK, I would expect someone to have said this already, but here it is:

Cult
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The word cult in current popular usage usually refers to a new religious movement or other group whose beliefs or practices are considered abnormal or bizarre.[1] The word originally denoted a system of ritual practices. The word was first used in the early 17th century denoting homage paid to a divinity and derived from the French culte or Latin cultus, ‘worship’, from cult-, ‘inhabited, cultivated, worshipped,’ from the verb colere, 'care, cultivation.

Occult

For other uses, see Occult (disambiguation).
The word occult comes from the Latin word occultus (clandestine, hidden, secret), referring to "knowledge of the hidden".[1] In the medical sense it is used to refer to a structure or process that is hidden, e.g. an "occult bleed"[2] may be one detected indirectly by the presence of otherwise unexplained anemia.

The word has many uses in the English language, popularly meaning "knowledge of the paranormal", as opposed to "knowledge of the measurable",[3][4] usually referred to as science. The term is sometimes popularly taken to mean "knowledge meant only for certain people" or "knowledge that must be kept hidden", but for most practicing occultists it is simply the study of a deeper spiritual reality that extends beyond pure reason and the physical sciences.[5] The terms esoteric and arcane can have a very similar meaning, and the three terms are often interchangeable.[6][7]

The term occult is also used as a label given to a number of magical organizations or orders, the teachings and practices taught by them, and to a large body of current and historical literature and spiritual philosophy related to this subject.

One does not form an occult, although one might form an occult organization.
