Oddball Political Post

Disclaimer: under no circumstances do I ever want a mega earthquake to hit the west coast. The loss of life would be astronomical. The following is a hypothetical scenario only, based off what could potentially happen at some point in the future.

If a mega earthquake ever hit the San Andreas Fault and the west coast slipped into the ocean (I know, I know...that is Hollywood movie stuff), how would that affect American politics? No more California = 55 fewer electoral votes that always go to a democrat, not to mention if anything happened to Oregon and Washington as well.

I have no idea why I even posted this other than I just watched the trailer for San Andreas.

You know what a "helicopter parent" is?

I was more of a "glider parent".

Had to google it. I get it, as in : a parent who hoovers over their kids.

If I have any children we've never met, and I'm not sure my imaginary talking monkey counts.

Dont scare me I live on the west coast now
OK, since we don't want to scare Iti, let's just change the scenario to this: California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington just left the USA and joined Canada. How would that affect the political climate of the rest of the United States?

Heck, how would that affect the economic climate of the USA?

I would be more interested in how that would affect the political climate of the rest of Canada.

All I know is that Texas by itself has the 12th largest economy in the world so...
Losing Silicon Valley would be yuge economically. Though if California simply seceded, wasn't wiped out, I reckon Silicon Valley companies would just move out of California and to a different state.

I'm Just taking California out of the electoral college:

2016: 306 (R) 177 (D) = Trump Wins
2012: 206 (R) 277 (D) = Obama Wins
2008: 173 (R) 310 (D) = Obama Wins
2004: 286 (R) 196 (D) = Bush Wins
2000: 271 (R) 212 (D) = Bush Wins
1996: 159 (R) 325 (D) = Clinton Wins
1992: 168 (R) 316 (D) = Clinton Wins

The pattern seems to be the US ends up with the same President even without California. Even without Oregan and Washington (18/19 electoral votes) you'd still get the same President.

We'd have to conquer & annex Canuckistan.
That might take all morning.

I reckon our votes and political views would have more effect in Canada than our voices currently have in the United States?
