I was responding to a post from jamaesi vbmenu_register("postmenu_515390", true); about the castration of sex offenders and I went on a tangent about what I would like to see be done to child molesters. Sorry jamaesi. So I will post my question here. What do you think the best punishment would be for child molesters? A long prison term and lots of therapy.

A long prison term ,lots of therapy with supervision when back in the community,constants checks on where they reside,work etc, kind of like being on parole for life, its our duty to protect children if its at the cost of human rights etc to the offender so be it.

I agree with a long sentence and therapy for those who are truly troublesome (not the 18 on 17 year old thing). The therapy should be conducted during the time spent in jail and afterwards. If a group of doctors conclude he's "cured", I say we opt to let him be, just like all other criminals not serving for life. If the doctors still see risk, he should be strictly monitored (though not kept in jail).

I'm hesitant with putting their names up on the internet, though, for their own safety. Unless all crimes are public (in such a way)?

I agree with Kai on this one. I think a sort of parole for life is appropriate until we honestly have a way of curing such people. The protection of children comes before anything else.
