With tonight's episode of Neighborhood Drama With George, it seems someone has spray painted my van.

Before we get too excited, I feel I oughta share a picture of my van. ETA: This is the 'before' picture. My son and I did this.
Van.jpg

Its more like they added to the art. They stayed in the lines and everything!

My husband is pretty angry and on edge. I'm thrilled. Its not every day someone wants to play.

Considering the previous state of the van, would you consider this something to be thankful for, or upsetting?

Someone certainly put some care into that fish, at any rate.

Honestly this reminds me of the vehicles we use for weekend relay races, though we decorate with removable car paint... still, it could be a lot worse.

Don't tell the hubby I said that though. 'Couod be worse' or 'at least' almost always comes off as invalidating or dismissal of people's feelings.

That was the before. Me and Ares did that.

Tonight's artists simply outlined the 'aum' and the doors, windows, and rims in white.

They also put their initials in a spot that wasn't already drawn on.

I thought they did a good job.
Oh yeah, I can definitely see where someone would see that as an invitation to play.

It looks unique enough not to be stolen but if it is unroadworthy the paintwork might unfortunately draw the attention of the police to check it over.

I agree that you invited their participation by starting the process yourselves. It may not have been intentional, but it's there, now.

To the OP, I guess it depends on the context. Did your family send any messages to the neighborhood that this was a community art project?

(I like it, BTW)

Gotcha. Well at that rate, I'd think it was amusing. And maybe leave a note for them, thanking them for the additional "fun".

Especially, if they didn't mess with anything that was already there and just added their own "flavor" to it.

I'd say your car is really easy to find in the parking lot :)

If you're happy with the result then fair enough. They should have asked permission first though in my opinion.

They should have, but judging on the age group(we got a glimpse of them later), I'm not surprised

I didn't send that message out, but... well, we send a lot of messages out without meaning to. We're weird.

We did get an opportunity to thank them... we went out and they were running away, presumably for the mostly empty paint cans I'd tossed out. I yelled to them that I thought they did a good job, and I appreciated the effort.

That's actually what inspired it! I almost got into someone else's van one day because the van looked like every other van; enough was enough.

It looks unique enough not to be stolen but if it is unroadworthy the paintwork might unfortunately draw the attention of the police to check it over.

Shockingly, the 'painted' vehicles seldom get pulled over. I've had one other painted like this... I have been pulled over once in this, and it was because my son pulled the registration stickers off. However, the cop was cool, and took a selfie with me(her idea) for the sleeping toddler who would would be bummed about missing the pull over.

We're thinking of leaving spray paint cans by the garage and leaving a note for them to get to work on the garage next. (After seeing the kids, we realized they're the same bunch that often hangs out in the alley.)
