Oliver Stone: 'US has become an Orwellian state'

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
My response would be...

What do you mean has become?

It already had been a surveillance state for years.

In fairness however, I think the Brits have it much worse.

He has apparently not read 1984, as surveillance does not equate to an Orwellian society.
I don't think U.S. Americans realise how good they have it sometimes; the U.S. is one of the most free lands on Earth.
True, but that is entirely dependent upon what you are looking at and who you are comparing us to. We have the legally protected right to be bigoted ******** and say whatever we want without any regards to who is around or the setting (such as WBC protesting funerals), but at the same time we have a ton of petty and trivial bs laws that really hurt people, and we do have the world's largest prison population, which alone contributes about a quarter of the total global prison population (at least when last I checked a few years ago). We also do, unfortunately, have to be weary of our police force, as they pose one of the greatest dangers to public safety, and they are becoming increasingly militarized, to the point even "small town USA" has vehicles that are suitable for active war zones.

How about some of the provisions of the Patriot Act, which many supported?
