I'd like to provide the opportunity for anyone interested to explore the Olivet Discourse as recorded in the Book of Mathew. Jesus speaks on the Mount of Olives about events in the future both near and far.
One approach could be to work through Chapter 24 in the book of Mathew in small sections
The first 2 verses from the King James Version of the Bible read:
1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Some general questions to consider initially could be:
Who was the author of the book of Mathew?
When was it written?
For what purpose?
How is the book of Mathew structured?
What is a common name attributed to this particular discourse?
Where else in the New Testament might we find this particular discourse?
Some questions that relate to the specific verses could be:
What’s the significance of the temple?
What historic event might Jesus be prophesising?
I'm interested in this as I am currently part of a bible study consisting of a Catholic, conservative Christian, Agnostic, and Baha'i. I'm the Baha'i
Go easy please as this my first OP and I'm scared witless
