Was just with a friend from Leeds and another friend both of whom are graduates of SOAS. We sat around and chatted and I found that I had a common interest with one of the brothers, that being music. We hummed and haaed about the opinions of scholars concerning music, and I played my friend a song I wrote many years ago (1993 I think) influenced by the obligational surah of the quran that must be said in each prayer Al Fatihah
In the name of god, the most gracious, The dispenser of grace. All praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds, The Most Gracious, the Dispenser of Grace,Lord of the Day of Judgment! Thee alone do we worship; and unto Thee alone do we turn for aid. Guide us the straight way.The way of those upon whom Thou hast bestowed Thy blessings, not of those who have been condemned [by Thee], nor of those who go astray!
Seems people like this song. I had a female friend who was locked up in prison in Panama for quite a long time, and we got a copy of my CD out to her. She told me that this song was a particular favourite with the inmates...
