Hi. While I label myself as a Christian freethinker, I am open to discussion about most anything.

A pastor once told that there are probably more than 100,000 different religions in the world, past and present. Interesting.

I am Christian for several reasons: 1) I grew up in a Christian community; 2) I lived much of my youth with my grandparents and my grandfather was a deacon; 3) I know very few people that are not Christian or at least claim to be Christian; 4) I've had spiritual experiences that changed me forever; and 5) I try to be more like Christ and less like much of the world.

I am a freethinker for several reasons: 1) I couldn't buy-in to the "fairy tales" I heard in church; 2) I hate the way some church-goers are so condemning [note that I don't call them Christians--they seem more like Pharisees than Christ-like]; 3) I can't see how one can live according to both the Old and New Testaments as one pastor tried to swear me to [there must be a reason they are labeled that way]; and 4) with so many different denominations, no church can be "right" about everything. [Maybe one, but which one?] Thus, I have decided to make up my own mind about things, making the 'freethinker' label most appropriate.

Welcome. I will be interested to hear what your freethinking has lead you to believe.

Welcome. I will be interested to hear what your freethinking has lead you to believe.

It has led me to believe that there is definitely some power out there, however he/she/it may be labeled by humans. I have experienced the presence and witnessed miracles. I note that nearly all religions believe in prayer and I have found that prayer works when done properly with the right attitude and belief. Gimmee prayers don't work so well. I observe that most people are brought up to believe one way or another and that we each find our own way to whatever happiness or paradise we may seek. Therefore I am very tolerant of other beliefs, at least that don't advocate violence.

Welcome, but here at RF you often pay the price for thinking-- no "freethinking" here.;)

Welcome to the forum.

Apparently you believe the bum rap given the Pharisees in Christian scripture?

You've piqued my curiosity already with a few of those....reasons 1 and 3 are interesting...4 needs exploring too....let the discussions begin!
