Opening ceremony for Olympics has drag queens resembling the Last Supper

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
The extravagant opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics has caused fury among the populist and religious right in the United States and elsewhere, with critics especially unhappy about an apparent depiction of the Last Supper featuring drag performers.

Drag performance resembling Last Supper at Olympic opening ceremony rankles conservatives
Go woke go broke, that's all I got to say about it.

Million zillion dollar question....

Why can't the Olympics just be about people competing in sporting events without all this political woke garbage being thrown in peoples faces all the time? Screw France.

Now on the other hand, if it had Divine resurrected from the dead , and John Waters .......

As I posted in the other thread:

I think people saw the Last Supper when maybe it wasn't actually there:

The ceremony's artistic director, Thomas Jolly, said there was no intention to "mock or denigrate anyone" and explained the scene in question was designed to reference pagan gods.

Jolly told French broadcaster BFM: "The idea was to do a big pagan party linked to the gods of Olympus."

I'll add I'm reminded of Apophenia:

"Apophenia is : “the tendency to perceive a connection or meaningful pattern between unrelated or random things (such as objects or ideas)”

It seems it has more to do with Greco-Roman mythology than Christian mythology.

I don't buy that at all. I think Thomas Jolly is either lying or too stupid to know this looks like the Last Supper. Furthermore, he didn't design this performance in a vacuum without the approval of many other people. This ersatz "excuse" is bogus and is itself insulting.

IMHO this was a fool thing to do and needless.
I was reading about this despicable thing France has done to insult Christians using a time honored international event of all things, and one commentator in an article i was reading said something very prevalent and that is their hypocrisy shows, because they wouldn't do something disrespectful like that to another religion.

How come they didn't have exactly 12 drag queens then? There were actually 17.

Because the organizers knew or should have known this could be seen as insulting to many people. Either they are being disingenuous liars or grossly incompetent. In either case they deserve all the heat they are receiving.

If they did mean for some resemblance to the Last Supper, I think it does a good job of doing something that should be a main tenet of Christianity: Showing that all are welcome at Christ's table.

They are welcome at Dionysius' table.

Io Evohe!

And it seems that inclusion is a value inherent in the idea behind the Olympics.

Though, I do wish they were more environmentally friendly.

Are you asking me to explain why they didn't have more accuracy in their portrayal? Ask them. Maybe they wanted to fit as many potentially insulting characters as possible. I think your question is irrelevant.

They actually had a blue-skinned Dyonisus front and center, but you won't believe they meant to represent pagan gods?

I guess literally anything can be offensive to Christianity now.
Likewise I guess everything that is in any way potentially insulting to people is ok with some people.

CSpire has pulled its advertising. They want nothing to do with the Paris Olympics after this stunt.

No, I'm saying the outraged are reaching, and they don't care they're reaching, because they're seeing what they want to see, and won't accept any disconfirmation.
