opinion on naming children after bible people?

I see no problem with it. Especially since those names are extremely popular in Western culture, and most don't even realize that some of them are Biblical names.

I've always liked Beelzebub.
Has a nice ring to it, & can be shortened to "Bub".
no thanks.

It is actually difficult naming a child. Try to find something from our family history, where it orginated from, as we did with one child. Another was a biblical prophet, relating to our beliefs. children....:D

This one we are kind of between a celtic origin, showing the families roots or with another biblical prophet as the new one doesnt feel left out.

So history, beliefs, name meanings, our lineage. Trying to put some thought in it..

that is actually a nice name. Too bad you already have it and said it online. For me to use it now would be tacky.

:D

I like a lot of the names from the New Testament. My son is named James Andrew, but his material grandfather was named James and his paternal grandfather was named Andrew. We liked both names. There was no conscious attempt to go to the Bible for a name.

In older Lutheran families, it was very common for families to name their children, partially, off the sons of Jacob. So one would find a lot of Ruebens being the oldest child. So there is a nice list of 12 names. Some of them aren't very common anymore, but many are.

My children are named Elijah, David and Rebekah, all of them are biblical names. (Prophet Elijah, King David, and Isaac's wife, Rebekah). So I guess it doesn't bother me.

How do you feel about naming kids after rock stars, movie stars, presidents, and historical figures? :)

I have two kids, and my younger one, a boy, we gave a biblical name, one of the minor prophets, which we felt would be really unique, and one that you very rarely hear. My daughter's name is a little more common, but it's not one from the bible. But I see no harm in it, but if you're going to, a word of advice: my son, like I said, has a biblical name, which ended up being really hard to find a good middle name for, but we eventually found one that worked.

so far the girl has a sisters middle name, the boys my first name for a middle name. My wife wants to name a boy after me as a jr. or somehow incorporate my my name in further but im actually kind of against the idea. For some reason having them so close or copying my name kind of makes me feel like im infringing on their identity. And to do it with one, and not the others could be either a curse for that one or make them feel more special than than the others just because they have my name which wouldnt be fair either way.

Christian names are very popular in the USA. My first name is a derivative of John. Lots of Johns, Josephs and Marys. Not too many Lucifers or Jezebels. :)
