Seems wrong to me. You can know a lot of things and have a deep knowledge of something, which might not lead to an ultimate best solution, but requires tradeoffs and you could have an opinion about whether one tradeoff is better than another.

You can also have empathy for someone based on wrong reasons, maybe because they deceived you in believing something which isn't true, in which case you have no knowledge, but rather just a lot of empathy based on the lack of knowledge.

Empathy is not knowledge. It is emotion and emotionally driven action. There are times where it could even be illogical...say trying to help a guy out just before, as he planned, robs and kills you.

That is an opinion.

And so was that. And so is this.

Even when you think something is a fact, it is just your opinion that it is a fact.

Opinions can be based on solid reason and evidence, or they can be based on nonsense. Not all opinions are equal.

And we can be, should be, and usually are held accountable for the opinions we express.

Saying “it is just my opinion” is no excuse for saying something stupid.

My opinion is people are too invested in their opinions. One can't keep from having them, but the chance that someone outside of your immediate circle cares what your opinion is is pretty slim.

Empathy is to be desired(in my opinion, the one I'm sure no one really cares about). It seems to be the best way to make the world a better place, and is a wonderful springboard in making the world a better place.

What about expert opinion?
Even though a expert could still be wrong, there is some accountability as far as their expert status goes.

There can be a lot of experience behind an opinion which does require understanding and if given authoritatively has accountability.
One can't assume the experience behind any given opinion though.

Obviously, the opinion of a physician has far more merit when it comes to health than the opinion of an electric engineer regarding health. So it's wrong upfront as not all opinions are created equal.
Empathy is not knowledge and more of a sense. Whether you learn about it or not it's something that social animals frequently have.
