Orbs

Any thoughs on the phenomenon that is commonly called Orbs ? Are they truely some form of energy , or did someone just sneeze on their camera lens ?

I have a picture of a group of Orbs that I can't explain , so I'm wondering about other's views .

Hehee, I just made a post in the "Angels and Guides" thread about a similar topic. I'm looking forward to getting home from work (where I should be heading right now) and discussing this!

Thank you.

They don't seem too impressive to me...but I've obviously not looked at them too much and do have a bias :).

In this town they had a spirituality shop that sold orbs. I asked the lady there what is so special about them and she said "OH I dunno, I just work here". I think that prople are using these sort of things in the wrong sense.

Once again it all comes down to belief, dudes. They have magic or whatever if you BELIEVE in them.

I have always thought of them as poor photography , untill I took a picture with one in it and couldn't explain it . That is why I'm asking about them .

I mean , I have tried to explain the photo . Reflection , but I wasn't using a flash and there was no light other then nature light . Dust ? It was no Orb in the pic I took seconds later , from the same angle , and it just doesn't look like dust . I can't explain it .

I couldn't explain it myself. I've just heard about the subject, and I know zilch about photography. I haven't the knowledge to address it. Maybe some other people on the board will see it and offer explanations (believers, skeptics, and those with an alternative).

I'm actually hoping for those with an alternative . Believe it or not , I'm really a sceptic at heart . But somethings , I just can't disprove ....

What reasoning takes us from "I don't know what this funny smudge is in my photo" to "That's Uncle Rick's spirit, trying to contact us" ?

All I know is,
1) Few of us understand exactly how cameras work and how film is developed.
2) If there really was a ball of light floating in the picture, and if it wasn't just the result of some anomalie inside the camera or on the lens or with the film, people should be able to see it without taking a picture of it.
3)The "orbs" caused by dust particles and moisture look an awful lot like the ones caused by spirits.

Having looked at the supplied websites, I'd have to say that I can't see any difference between the photos of dust particles, and the supposed 'orbs'.

Elvis Stojko ? But he's still alive ??? ;)

Yes , I agree that most do look like ... well , like someone sneezed on the camera lens . I was just wondering if anyone lest had a photo they couldn't explain ... Strange that so many believe that they are died spirits , and that so many are taken at night . My photo is of an animal , and was taken during the day .

I can see explaining away two or three photos with those lights in them, but I guess I don't understand all of them being taken of a person (with different cameras, in different areas, by different people) and them having the lights around them.

Soul, you said they were selling some type of orb? Was it a physical object?

Orbs of light

On a number of instances in the Most Haunted series, strange orbs and specks of light are picked up by the camera. Of course, these could have a perfectly natural explanation. I personally thought that some of the lights looked like moths, or dust, reflecting off the camera lights. However, I certainly believe that evil spirits can manifest such things. From my own personal experience, before I became a Christian and was interested in such things as ghosts, etc. I witnessed orbs of light myself. There was no apparent logical or rational explanation for where these had come from, but they did appear in the context of a lot of dark supernatural activity (for more on this read My Story). Spirits of the dead, or something else? The Bible gives us a clue:

"...for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light." (2 Cor. 11:14, emphasis added).

The Bible explicitly forbids attempted contact with spirits that pretend to be spirits of the dead (Deuteronomy 18:11). The Bible states that the dead do not have contact with the living (Luke 16:19-31). The reason for this is because such spirits are not spirits of the dead but rather deceitful spirits under the command of Satan. The Bible calls such spirits "demons", "evil spirits", and "unclean spirits". These demonic spirits are familiar with the departed dead whom they seek to imitate. This is why they are able to supply people with intimate details of names, places, and facts. Indeed, Isaiah 29:4 calls such a spirit a "familiar spirit" (KJV).

The bigger plan of demonic spirits is to draw people to become interested in their activity and the signs and wonders they perform. In doing so, they successfully blind people and influence them further away from a relationship with God. It is no accident, or coincidence, that many people who become interested in ghosts and the paranormal will often be led to go on to experiment with other spiritualities such as: tarot cards, astrology, fortune telling and so on. Even Derek Acorah’s own website promotes some of these spiritualities. From these, some people continue their quest for spirituality by going on to deeper and darker forms of occultism. It is a slippery slope downwards (rather than upwards, as people seem to think). This was certainly my own experience prior to becoming a Christian myself, as it has been the experience of many others like me. It is a very subtle and gradual process. Before a person realises what is happening, they are immersed in occult practices and are influenced by the same sprits to become hostile or indifferent to Christ and Christianity. The Bible states that Satan has...

"...blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." (2 Cor. 4:4).
The good news is that people do not have to remain blinded in the darkness. The Bible tells us that we can come into a relationship with Christ who is "the light of the world" (John 8:12) and be free from the fear and control of dark supernatural forces.

Man , someone was doing some digging . ;)

Jamaesi , I'm pretty much a skeptic too . But sometimes things happen that even skeptics can't explain . :)

Mindquest , as Mr. Sprinkles points out , we are making a bit of a jump just assuming that a spot on a picture is anything more then just that , a spot . It seems to me that assuming that some that is just there , not really doing anything , is somehow evil ... well . :) Unless of course one considers ruining a picture an evil act ????
