Pat Robertson says Haiti under a Curse

It's also "sinful" to work on the sabbath. So, shouldn't you be protesting that places like walmart or other stores be closed on sunday or friday, depending on which religion you fallow?

I do, but the sabbath is the 7th day.

My issue is not that they are open, but that people that claim to be Christians and say they are not going to work on Sunday go there and make others work. That is a sin, working your manservant.

I find it funny how so many refuse to work yet expect others to work.

It's depressing to me that most Christians would rather quote the Jesus version written by a madman (revelation) than the Christ of the synoptic gospels.

The vibe I'm getting from this thread is that Christians agree with Robertson they just think he's an *** for saying it's because of a specific rebellious event and getting press out of it. Sounds like they still agree with his sentiment.

He bilks millions off old people and pretends to help the poor... read up on Mobutu sese seko... Pat is and has never been anything more than a sumbucket, using God and the bible for his own ends. The type of Christianity that gives real Christians a bad name... he thinks all is required is John 3:16 so everything his God does is right and everyone else is wrong. Disgusting.

That is from the Bible if you care to read it:)

which bible?

There are (to repeat) plenty of different versions, translations and interpretations of the bible....

there are also plenty of versions of the bible that have been deliberatly slanted and rewritten to convey biggotry....

Once again though...
Jesus said absolutely nothing about homosexuality...
which must mean, Jesus isnt all that important to christians like your self...

Did I say Jesus? No. Read the Bible think the #3 Book, as well as some other stuff toward the end and some places in the middle.

The problem here is that you're basing this idea on a bonze age text. And than picking and choosing which parts you want to adhere to, and throwing out all of the others.

I know you did not say Jesus, but it has been brought up. (Remember, Jesus is the Christ in Christian)
Where, in what version of the bible, did Jesus take the time to condemn homosexuality as a sin?

Sicko - a person who is mentally or morally sick. That seems to describe Pat Robertson rather well.

Shouldn’t we give up old books that, along with moral guidelines, promote hate, division and violence? Shouldn’t we liberate ourselves form superstition, and from the paranormal and supernatural? In the twenty first century shouldn’t logic and critical thinking guide us?

We can’t pick and choose from different passages, the bible is either true or it isn’t. If we believe it to be true what about passages that ask us to kill:
  • Homosexuals (Lev. 20:13, Rom. 1:26-32)
  • Adulterers (Lev. 20:10, Deut. 22:22)
  • Disobedient children (Deut. 21:20-21, Lev. 20:9, Exod. 21:15)
  • Women who are not virgins on their wedding night (Deut. 22:13-21)
  • Those accused of wickedness by at least two people (Deut. 17:2-7)
  • Anyone who works on the Sabbath (Exod. 35:2-3, Num. 15:32-6)

It does make one winder though? Indonesia (tsunami), Iran (earthquake), Twin Towers (terrorism), Haiti (Earth Quake), Pakistan (earthquake), Mexico (Drug terrorism), California (earthquakes).
Matthew 24:6-11 (New International Version)
6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.
Mark 13:5-11 (New International Version)
5Jesus said to them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 6Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many. 7When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
9"You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. 10And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. 11Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
Luke 21:8-15 (New International Version)
8He replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them. 9When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away."
10Then he said to them: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
12"But before all this, they will lay hands on you and persecute you. They will deliver you to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. 13This will result in your being witnesses to them. 14But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. 15For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.
I am not agreeing with Pat, just point out other things.

Pat not only needs to read his Bible like the Ethiopian of Acts 8:30,31 he needs someone to guide him.

At Luke 13:4,5 the people that were killed at the tower of Siloam were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Along that line of thought Solomon wrote at Ecclesiastes 9:11 that time and chance or unforeseen occurrences befall us all.

By Jesus giving us that composite sign with its many features or events Jesus was not saying they are from God, but forewarning us as at Luke 21:11 where Jesus used the adjective 'great' to describe what types of earthquakes would be occurring before he takes action to bring permanent Peace on Earth. -Micah 4:3,4.

2nd Cor 4:4 calls Satan the god of this world of badness.
Isn't it Jesus that will bring an end to Satan according to Hebrews 2:14 b?

While Jesus was on earth he demonstrated on a small scale at Mark 4:39 what he will be doing on a large or grand scale during his Millennial Reign over earth. Jesus made the stormy wind be peaceful and calm.

In the meantime, besides giving material and physical aid, (Matt 24:14) one can give spiritual aid through prayer and Scriptures such as the words of Psalm 55.

I have thought this for a very long time. I like this quote from John Dominic Crossan's book, "Who is Jesus".
"My point, once again, is not that those ancient people told literal stories and we are now smart enough to take them symbolically, but that they told them symbolically and we are now dumb enough to take them literally".

There is a difference between killing and an execution as for a capital crime.
Those 'children' of Lev. and Deut. were adult and Not minor children.
Sabbath keeping ended with the Mosaic law.

We are not under the Mosaic law. Just as when a person chooses to become a citizen of a country they agree to abide by its laws. Those ancient Israelites agreed to abide by the Mosaic law covenant or contract.

Repentance is stressed in the Christian Scriptures. Please notice the past tense is used at 1st Cor 6:11 A. Where it says: and such 'were' some of you. All those listed in verses 9,10 repented and stopped those practices.

Oh so it's okay to kill your kids as long as they're adults! I'll have to let my kids know this. That'll bring them in line!

So you are admitting that religion changes over time and rules can change when the old ones don't work anymore? Well then, I "Move" that we get new rules again, cause the old 2000+ year old ones just aren't working anymore. Anyone second that motion?

Preach it brother...

Some people just don't realize how nuts Pat really is.

Some longer quotes to add to the collection:

"We have allowed rampant secularism and occult, etc. to be broadcast on television. We have permitted somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 to 40 million unborn babies to be slaughtered in our society. We have a Court that has essentially stuck its finger in God's eye and said, 'We're going to legislate you out of the schools, we're going to take your Commandments from off the courthouse steps in various states, we're not going to let little children read the Commandments of God, we're not going to let the Bible be read -- no prayer in our schools.' We have insulted God at the highest levels of our government. And, then we say 'why does this happen?' Well, why its happening is that God Almighty is lifting his protection from us. And once that protection is gone, we all are vulnerable because we're a free society, and we're vulnerable. We lay naked before these terrorists who have infiltrated our country. There's probably tens of thousands of them in America right now. They've been raising money. They've been preaching their hate and overseas they've been spewing out venom against the United States for years. All over the Arab world, there is venom being poured out into people's ears and minds against America. And, the only thing that's going to sustain us is the power of the Almighty God."

"In Europe, the big word is tolerance. You tolerate everything. Homosexuals are riding high in the media. For example, in the Cayman Islands, which is a British colony or whatever they call it now -- it's an independent thing -- in order to establish full relationships with England, England is insisting that they recognize homosexuals and the Cayman Islands are saying: 'We're Christians and we'd rather not do it.' And in Scotland you can't believe how strong the homosexuals are. It's just simply unbelievable. And so as far as the vestiges of John Knox and some of these heroes, I don't think it exists any more. And what could happen? It could go right back to the darkness very easily."

"We're legalizing Sodomy. We're now teaching witchcraft in the schools. We're legalizing sodomy. Adultery is thought of as no big deal. We haven't quite got to bestiality yet, but it's on the Internet. And, incest is more and more prevalent and the sacrifice of children through abortion is in the 30 to 40 million range. We're doing all the things that God said were so repugnant that the land itself would be repulsed and would vomit its inhabitants out. And, if there was ever a time that we need God's blessing, it's now. We don't need to bring in heathen, pagan practices to the United States of America."

Yes Pat is one sick puppy!

Autodidact

Intentionally Blank
One sick puppy and one of the most powerful Christians in the world.

It occurs to me that there's a thread on RF right this minute about whether Muslims are doing enough to denounce terrorism. It occurs to me to wonder whether Christians are doing anything to denounce Pat Robertson.
