So whose your personal Patron Saint and/or Confirmation Saint?
My Confirmation Saint is St. Joan of Arc. As I reflect on my love for Jeanne, I can see a lot of myself in her. Like her, I can understand the call to fight for national independence from foreign invaders. But, like her, I am aghast at the horrors of war (she never killed anyone in battle and was said to weep over the dead, pray for them and comfort the dying - both of the English and French forces). As a transgender person, I can relate to the gender bending aspects of her story, as well. I look to her strength and perseverence in the face of nay sayers and adversity, to trust in voice of God to guide my life which is a hard thing for me in my life. She is also said to have had a feisty temper, and I do too!
But in recent years, I have developed quite the fondness for St. Francis of Assisi, even adopting him as my namesake (well, for my first name - I have two middle names which are also Catholic Saints). I strongly admire his strong and respect for all of God's creatures and his simple, joyful approach to faith. He was surely a life-loving and lovable Saint. He is also said to be the first Saint to be blessed with the Stigmata.
