Pay Increase Vote

Shouldn't it be illegal for politicians to vote for their own pay increases?

Shouldn't the Public vote on this?

If they can do it, why can't we vote for pay increases at our places of employment?

That's an excellent point. I don't feel they have the right to do that and the laws should be changed. Recently here where I live they decreased the unemployment compensation by 23% but the people running the show got raises...not in the least fair. I think if citizens knew what to do it could be changed...but most only complain...me included.

Yes, we should be able to vote on all those things mostly because most of the working class can't do it for themselves...it's not fair that they can.:)

Government shouldn't pay for taxes at all since they themselves are taxes in the first place. They vote on pay increases to compensate for the tax increase that happened just prior to their vote. Vicious little cycle. Taxes paying for taxes and then "But I expected to make X. Time for a vote on pay increase boys!".

1) Illegal? They make the laws.
2) Public vote? We're not voting for people to get into office.
3) Voting for pay raises in private employment sector? Private & Government aint alike or the government would be out of business by now with that financial deficit. Profit margin < /dev/null !

In the US Congress, pay increases do not take effect until the next session. That is absolutely true for the House but I think that it is true for the Senate when the pay increase for the Senator does not take effect until after a re-election.

Thus, nobody votes him or herself a pay raise without constituents getting involved.

Working for the government should be an honor....they shouldn't get paid for it.....we should volunteer for it. Government should not be a business.....I believe that is the biggest problem in the US that affects the world.....we see Government as business.
