Peer Preasure made me quit.

Im sure everyone here has heard of how peer preasure is what leads teens to smoking, drinking, and other things.
My story is different.
Last night I went to a party. I was friends with everyone there, and I noticed something. I was the ONLY one smoking. Out of about 20 people, I was the only smoker. After being people gave me a bunch of crap about my smoking, and my own personal reasons, I announced to everyone after the pack was finished, if anyone sees my with another ciggarette, do me a favor and kick my @$$. I was slightly drunk when I said this, but I plan on quiting for good this time.

Anyone else have any stories that go against the mainstream idea of peer preasure?

Grats. I stopped ...eh nah, I really dont care about what anyone else things. I respect them, but I dont care really. If I did something, I did it because I felt like it.

Yay, peer pressure is good for something! :D Can't say I have any personal experience with peer pressure working in good ways, though...

Since this is now sort of a two topic thread...

1- I've never cared about group peer pressure. I was a skater/punkish type of teen who also played hockey and my best friends were and are a jock, a preppy, and country boy. So I didn't get influenced by large groups of people easily.

2- My wife smoked. She always said she would quite and I would hound her when she was pregnant. She would sneak one or two but was quite good while pregnant. Also she never smoked indoors or in the car with the kids. Then when my son was 2-3 he picked up an old cigarette butt and pretended to smoke it. She took it out of his hand. Threw her 1/2 finished cigarette on the ground, threw her pack in the garbage and hasn't smoked since. Completely suprised the begeepers out of me.

Peer pressure is a GREAT thing in diving. No one wants to look like a noob, and if you trash a reef you are going to get SOMEONE in your face. :D
