people who are born christian but want to be hindu - disrespectful? ?

Hi i wanted to ask a question does anyone feel that people who adopt Hinduism and wear clothes to do with Hinduism are being disrespectful the reason i ask is i want to be Hindu but i wasnt born to a Hindu family but i love and want to learn more and more about Hinduism its my dream to wear a wedding sari and have the make up and jewellery etc i told a friend who is christian and said am not hindu and i never will be am born christian and i should remain christian he sees me as someone who would be making a fool of myself and of Hinduism but i just want to learn more and more about Hinduism sorry if this post is disrespectful

If I was inspired by a Scottish Presbytarian minister it would influence my religious opinion. It would not make me want to wear a kilt.

Your spiritual life is the journey you take. Any rubbish about clothing choices is just a distraction.

There are several white Hindu converts on these forums. There is a whole lot more to Hinduism than beautiful saris, but if you want to learn you can research, or ask questions here. When you explore it, you may well discover its not for you and Christianity makes more sense. You can still wear the sari. In Sri Lanka, Kerala state in India, lots of Christians wear saris.

I've seen a lot of non-Hindus come into Hinduism, and from my own observation, I would say it's easier for those folks with either no religion, or very liberal Christianity. Off hand, I don't know a single convert that came from fire and brimstone Christianity. Too big of a leap.

I experienced the same concerns you are currently experiencing. I was born and raised Catholic, but I knew early in life that it wasn't the path for me.

Though my worldview was identical to Hinduism, I experienced much trepidation in labeling my views Hinduism.

Many here of Hindu decent/culture welcomed me with open arms. I'm confident that your experience may be similar.

There is much to learn here in the DIR as well as in links to external sources. Learn and grow. I won't speak for other members of the Hinduism DIR, but your queries will always be welcome here.

That is so wrong and incorrect I can’t find the words. Except to say, sorry not sorry, your friend is ignorant. When people don’t understand something they try to knock it down, or in this case, discourage you.

There are a few of us here who are not born Hindus, or even Indian. I was born into an Italian-American Roman Catholic family. I wear Indian clothing, I cook Indian food. My Indian coworkers, and people at temple are flattered that non-Indians adopt Hinduism and their ways.

Don’t be swayed by someone else’s negativity or attempts to discourage you. Follow your feelings, “you do you”.

Curious, I wonder what your buddy would say if it was a Hindu thinking about becoming a Christian. Would he consider that disrespectful, or just a victory for Christ?

I was an atheist born into a muslim family yet 4 years i ago i began to feel an overwhelming attraction to Lord Vishnu! Anyone can become a Hindu and accept a path. The term is highly varied as there are many different types of Hindus. You don’t even need to be a Hindu to have an Indian wedding. While culture and religion tend to blend with each other, they are not the same.
