Why do some people only seem to like to discuss other people? My dad likes to come in and tell me all about what other people have done and I'm like, Dad I really don't care. Teenagers especially are good at talking about other people and it really bothers me.

I'd rather discuss ideas and politics etc. I don't give a crap what other people are doing and I don't want to be told about it. Yet all most people seem to want to discuss is what other local people are doing.

I got similar situation, my mother often talks about her co-workers and their mistakes or what they got right. I don't get it what's the purpose, but I listen to because she really likes to talk about it - I wouldn't call it gossip but just general talk about work.

Talking about other people can be interesting.
But some people just don't know when they're boring others.
After about 50 years, I learned to detect when I'm boring.

I know what you mean. When it is especially noticeable for me is when people start ranting away on specifics about people I don't even know and I'm like...um....ok.....and this matters because....And I am pretty sure they talk about me like that, like wow you'll just tell strangers all kinds of crap about people.
