There has never been an actor who emoted so much character with just grunts and groans then the benevolent zombie know as “Bub” played by Sherman Howard for George Romero’s third “dead” film Day Of the Dead. For those who have already seen this film watch it again, you will believe that a zombie can be rehabilitated. An excellent and unforgettable performance.
Edward Norton in American History X........Roberto Benigni shouldn't have won IMO.
Paul Giamatti in Sideways I think should have been nominated. Jamie Foxx was a good choice for winning the award, but man, Paul was snubbed BIG time in 2004.
I know Peter O'Toole SHOULD have won at least one award at some point.

For my money, The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction were both better than Forrest Gump, which beat both of them for best picture in 1994.
Elizabeth should have won in 1998.
I haven't seen The Departed, so I don't know for sure, but I'll bet Little Miss Sunshine was better in 2006.

Denzel Washington's nuanced portrayal of Malcolm X in X should have won over Clint Eastwood's work in Unforgiven in '92. In '76, both Network & Taxi Driver were considerably better films than Rocky.
