Person you look up to most

Druidus

Keeper of the Grove
What person do you look up to most? I'm not really going for family or friends (because it's a bit hard to express why you look up to them, when we don;t even know them), but, if you want ot post that, go ahead, as long as you post another person we might know of, or be able to look up.

For me, I'd have to say Jane Goodall. Her work is amazing, and she shattered the field bias against females. It is my most fervent wish to be able to meet her, at some point, or at least talk to her. Sadly, I fear that will never happen, because, though I have searched, with fervor, I could not find an email address for her (and she's getting old. Born in 1934, she's about 71 years old)... :(

I'd give most anything to converse at length with her...

In today's society, that's hard to say.

I will definately mention my Mother for overcoming the struggles she has. There are spiritual and intellectual giants I could mention, but she's gone through such a bad time, that I simply thinks she deserves mention.

Dr. Jack Kevorkian. It is a national disgrace that he is rotting in prison.

I am going to start a thread in General Debates on his behalf.

When I was younger I wanted to grow up to be Ernie Kovacs. I still keep a fond remembrance of him in my heart.

Stephen Hawking - such a great mind who keeps on giving despite his awful physical condition.

I would have died to meet Marlee Matlin. I'm deaf ya know! Very good role model! But then I have lots of role models, the late Mary Speirs, Amanda Everitt a another deaf legend who is trying to be the first deaf lawyer in NZ, Rachel Noble, my mentor....

This changes for me, depending on what I'm focusing or studying on at the time. But I'll agree with MV that The Dalai Lama is up there for as well.

I used to, until I became taller than she! Actually, my mother was a remarkable woman, as my Father was a remarkable man. When Dad died, I remember crying when I saw the coffin going into the church, not for my sadness at his dying (He had suffered a lot towards the end), but more at what I could see the younger version of himself thinking of the man in the coffin; the same happened with Mum - she died from Parkinson's, and Cancer.

People should not grow old!!!:)
