Let's Bomb Everything': Philippines President Duterte Urges U.S. To Declare War on China

"Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte once again demonstrated his unconventional style of global diplomacy on Monday, calling on the U.S. to declare war on China over tensions in the South China Sea.
The strongman leader called on Washington to deploy the U.S. 7th Fleet—some 70 to 80 ships and submarines—to the South China Sea to push China out of the contested region."

We shouldn't believe the rhetoric from our respective leaders.

He is not to be taken seriously, really.

I don't know but a lot of people want war these past few days over some petty things.

His remarks make a bit more sense as he's quoted later in the article:

Duterte's inflammatory speech was his second in three days, having also been beating the drum for war on Friday. During a speech marking the opening of a rice processing plant in Alangalang on the central island of Leyte, the president said the U.S. is always "pushing us, egging us" towards war with Beijing, "making me the bait," according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

"What do you think Filipinos are, earthworms?" he asked. "Now, I say, you bring your planes, your boats to South China Sea. Fire the first shot, and we are just here behind you. Go ahead, let's fight."

I think he's sending the message that he doesn't like being used as a pawn, so he's saying that "if the US wants China out of there, then just do it."

The Philippines have few alternatives. They can cave to China or hope for US intervention. China's actions are a valid casus belli. People just like buying cheap goods so ignore violations.

Trump has a 500 million dollar project in China. He isn't going to attack China.

His nation has no real power. He is a pawn as his state is a pawn.

I find nothing entertaining about it. Trump has already had do nothing bombings, engaged in dangerous sabre rattling, and this douche is egging him on.

Well that "douche" found a cure for gayness. He said he was a "bit gay" when he was young and he cured himself by surrounding himself with beautiful women.
isn't that something?

That may be true, but he's an ornery pawn just the same.

Sure. Just to keep this isolated to the topic (I know the guy has a lot of issues) a lot of people would be pissed off when faced with the fact that his nation is nothing of consequence is the large geo-political games. I wonder if he is hoping for a situation similar to that of Taiwan, USA and China after the China Civil War until the 1970s (80s?)

Well, the Philippines is somewhat strategically located and the US has maintained a military presence for a long time for just that reason. It's probably not as important as it used to be, though.

That something is BS.

I agree, he said it and I found it funny because you just can't make things like that up. It's the little things in life, learn to enjoy them and you will live a longer and happier life.
Suddenly I feel like an Oompa loompah

There may be some truth to that, i.e. it may be hard to be a gay man if you are only surrounded by women and not men lol :p

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Well good to know the China turns across if we have an ally.

Personally I'd rather see them hand over Hong Kong back to the Brits.
