I took the kids to the local Youth Art Museum today.

The place is fantastic. Its covered in exhibits pertaining to arts, social studies, and science that lets the kids experience things first hand rather than gaze at or listen to. Everything is interactive, many of the sites requiring full body participation. As the kids had fun, I followed them around, yawning a bit as one would jump on this, or play with that. I saw a lot of other moms doing the same.

And then I saw a boat. With a fishing pole. And it looked like fun. Well... why not? While the kids played on the big wooden bus(which I was much too big for) I got in the boat, and I caught me some fish! (All stuffed and magnetic, of course. No actual fish were harmed!)

I decided I wasn't going to observe, I was going to participate! I stomped on drums(you were supposed to), and painted with water, and put on a chicken costume(I do love chickens). I had a great time; much more so than I would have if I'd have just been overseeing.

Its been awhile since I've played like that.

How about you? Do you enjoy playing sometimes? If so, what is it you like to do?

Violent brain rotting video games are my go to.
Clearly I’ve been conditioned into being a degenerate but small price to pay, eh? ;)

Basketball (I mean...I play and coach, but I'm talking more here about just going down to the local school with my kids)

Dancing to Wiggles or the Bluey theme song with my toddler (I love Bluey...lol)

Random marching or strutting at the shops when it gets boring walking around. My 11 year old and I often sing 'Strut, strut, strut your stinky butt' while we do it. This generally horrifies the 13 year old.

I'm a very playful person. I don't think I ever stopped playing. Adults like to pretend (notice how that resembles playing) they don't play anymore, most still do.... they call it leisure. :p

A long term goal I have is setting up hand operated
machine tools so that young kids & old kids (50+)
can make chips by turning cranks & pulling levers.
I already have a selection of tools.

I love playing tug with the dog and wish that for a few minutes I were a dog and could meet her at her level.

I'm addicted to video gaming, particularly VR.

I like to micro-trade crypto currencies. By "micro-trading" I mean day trading with tiny amounts of money, typically like $1 to $4 a trade.

Funny thing is I find that I get just as big a thrill micro-trading as I do with real trading:

10:00 am: [I buy $4 worth of Crazycoin at .0100 per].

11:15 am:
[Crazycoin goes up to .0104. I sell my whole position at a 4% profit] "My God I'm good at this! I just made a better return in 15 minutes than most people make on their investments in a year!! SUCKERS"

11:45 am: [Crazycoin goes up another 12% to .0116 per] "%#@~@^!! If I had waited another half hour I would have made 4 times the profit! I suck at this!!"

12:03 pm : [Crazycoin nosedives to .006 per] "HAH! I knew I did the right thing selling when I did. I rock at this!"

Then I take my now $4.16 and start all over again.

At least your odds are better than the lottery. I think...

One of my favorite things to do is live action role play. I haven't done in awhile, but I really enjoyed it. By the gods it's so fun and spellbinding that it even makes the Elder Scrolls games dreadfully weary and boring.
And I had so much fun playing as a dark elf, especially with a couple of the guys who were dwarves. Amd awesome how real friendships emerged over the months while character friendships were forged on the battlefield while bitter enemies were made over the things that make enemies (and also, in real life, strong dislikings and hatreds also developed).
And be it woken up by raiding marauders, unable to sleep from the chaos and murder that abounded, the chaotic choices of players forcing the story and plot in radical directions, raiding an estate to claim the head of a rebellious noble, traveling deep below to battle a Death Knight foretold by prophecy to bring the end of the world, or being my character's god's chosen champion in a battle to end the war against the gods, it was so much that I managed to even camp outside when it was only 10 degrees F.

I do that with sports betting...lol
I thought I was the only nutter. I started with $200 in an account about 5 or 6 years back, and at this point it's $220, without me adding any funds. The only point is for me to try and keep it above $200 without adding money, so I'm 'winning'.

Hmmm, I love to play :).

Outside of video games. I also consider messing around with words as a way to "play". I swap syllables, or read signs backwards, and many different ways, to come up with silly ideas.

I also do this as improv when a song comes on that I am familiar with, I'll change the words to the song, keeping the syllables and rhythm the same, but throw out my own lyrics.

Hmm, I also play with my cats and dog.

My wife and I joke around with each other a lot. Harmless banter.

Play is one of the most important things in life to do. Even adult animals still engage in play.
