I'm not sure about wolves, but my dad was in a town where everyone knew a polar bear who visited the dogs every once in a while. He was lucky enough to witness them play. The dogs would roll around a wrestle with the polar bear (who almost invariably won ).
I'll have to see if there were any documented friendships between wolves and bears.
If they were ever in a situation where it was possible, I don't see why not.
I suspect their friendship will only lead to a sordid attempt at interspecies mating and should be stopped before it destroys the sanctity of human marriages.
I like those. I particularly like the fifth one - it truly looks like the dog is speaking and the polar bear is sitting there patiently listening
As for making friends with wolves, I would say yes and no. Those are Alaskan huskies, which in some cases are very similar to wolves. I think that polar bears would befriend lone wolves, but they would never befriend one who belonged to a pack - that would cause trouble.
aaah! cute! i've seen my dog and a baby skunk play together like this, very cute and odd to watch. all i can say is, that it looks like dogs can bring out the best in anyone!
anyway, strange inter-species friendships aren't uncommon. Lions and dogs, lions and gazelle, wolves and bears, wolves and buffalo have all been documented. Moose bull falling in love with a hereford cow (named Jessica) in Vermont.:jiggy:
Such friendships are usually short but strong. I've always taken them as reminders that if other spiecies can get along why can't we. Besides animals are 'people' too.
We had a Cocker Spaniel who gave birth to a litter of six. She had a hard time, and was worn out. She was very happy to let our cat go into her bed, to wash her puppies. I wish that there had been camcorders in those days.
