Political extremism in some Catholic groups.

Maybe there have been some movements like this in the past but I found surprising the depth of the government involvement.

In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Jordan alleged the FBI “relied on at least one undercover agent to produce its analysis, and that the FBI proposed that its agents engage in outreach to Catholic parishes to develop sources among the clergy and church leadership to inform on Americans practicing their faith.” Jordan further alleged the FBI suggested that “certain kinds of Catholic Americans may be domestic terrorists.”

With the political power that the Church exerts here,
I'm not at all surprised that politicians would shut
down any investigation of extremist criminal activity.
Catholics are 2/3 of SCOTUS. Catholics have had such
power that they've been able to protect priests' sexually
assaulting thousands of children for many decades.

My grandfather was born in Louisiana, from Cajun roots and devoutly Catholic. I spent some time with his family there at various times from the 60s on. There were some who had some pretty right-wing beliefs which that region of the country is reputed as having, so I suppose it's possible. A few were left-wing, and most didn't seem to care either way. It's just like with anything. There seems to be certain extremists coming out of the woodwork - some might be Catholic, some Protestant, although that doesn't really seem to be much of a factor. It just goes to show that the Lunatic Fringe ultimately welcomes all faiths.

I do recall being shocked by the extremism I encountered among some American Catholics when I lived in Houston. I would not be surprised if Jordan, whoever he is, is right. Though I must admit the stereotype of the gun-toting MAGA Trumpie brownshirt is more evangelical than Catholic.

Jordan is a ultra conservative in the House of Representatives, ran against Macarthy for Speaker. Politics and religion make strange bedfellows.
I think you are correct that it is more representative of evangelicals.

That's why it can be a bit more complicated at street level, since not everyone generally fits into a certain category all that perfectly or congruently.

Ya, Jordan says a lot of things that problem come out much the same as when he takes a dump. It's just more of the "culture wars" nonsense being pushed by the Pubs since they are not willing to make serious recommendations to deal with the country's many serious problems, and Jordan loves to grandstand.

But then grandstanding worked for Trump in 2016, so...
