Politicians on a pedestal?

So I want to talk about hero worshipping people such as politicians.
Have you ever seen or have you been guilty of defending or otherwise placing a politician you like on a pedestal?
I’ve seen this happen a lot in American culture (obviously this is not exclusive to Americans, every one does it. Just an observation.)

But like I can’t tell you the last time I actually genuinely liked a politician I voted for, outside of being a naive teenager. And even then I would mock them without hesitation.

I want to know your thoughts though. Because I feel like the mentality in America is somewhat different in this regard. Only going by what I’ve seen and heard.
I don’t want to be making assumptions

Never. I will tear apart any politicians whether I agree with their positions or not. They rarely represent their constituents and seek to only further their own grip on power

I'll be more forgiving towards local politicians, but even then people change over time - especially in the political world

I've genuinely liked a number of local politicians I've voted for.

As for placing a politician on a pedestal, I've unironically sat on Jack Layton's tandem bike sculpture by the Toronto Ferry Terminal.

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.
