Hi, all!

Ever since I became forum staff in 2012, my approach to moderation has changed over the years. One result of the changes is my current view that polling members and asking for their feedback about various forum-related topics is a desirable approach that should generally be implemented as much as possible. These are some examples of what I mean, all from this year:

I suppose this thread is sort of a meta-poll, since I'm asking people what they think about the very approach that underpins this thread and the above ones. Do you find it helpful, more conducive to a good forum atmosphere, or otherwise desirable? Does it make you feel more heard at all or more involved in how the forum functions?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

In regards to threads polling us about RF , I think they are a positive contribution to the forum. From the time @Sunstone was doing them, to now when you and other staff seem to do them.

Wait! Did you just ask for feedback about asking for feedback? Methinks a poll about the efficacy of meta-polls is on the horizon.

I will have to make a poll about that to decide whether such a poll is in order!

As for the question: No, I do not feel more heard.

Thanks for the honest feedback.

What would make you feel more heard? I understand that there are some highly requested forum features that are still not implemented, but I'm asking more about things that we (the volunteer staff) can control or implement ourselves without needing owner involvement.

I choose to view being heard by RF staff as a binary, i.e., I am either heard or not heard; there is no "more" or "less."

  1. I felt heard before.
  2. I feel heard now.
  3. You folks are doing fine -- my NO vote should be viewed as a complement.

And so I view it in light of the above post—thoroughly so.

Thanks for the immensely thoughtful and kind words! I hope you're doing well, Jay.

I feel the transparency and open communication have helped contribute to RFs longevity.
