Polygamy and Polyandry - You decide

So is there really anything wrong with Polygamy or Polyandry?

Anybody feel like getting the debate rolling?

Can we allow any marriage within the realms of decency as long as the adults are consenting?

I do have some views on these issues and am keen to share them so after you my good ladies and gentlemen....

I think it can be fine if society is set up to suit it.
I personally do not like the idea of being in that kind of relationship, but that doesn't mean I think it's inappropriate for everyone.

Also, I've noticed a high percentage of people open to polyandry are bisexual. I think that's really interesting.

It seems okay to me as long as every consenting part is okay with it (well, consenting , right? :D)

Decency is quite subjective and varies from culture to culture, from place and time to place and time.

As long as it doesn´t hurt anybody, I think it´s cool

I can't think of any good reasons to ban either.
There would be issues if they resulted in more people going on public assistance.

I don't see any problem with it as long as all involved are consenting adults and nobody's rights are being violated.

I remember a similar thread a while back so I'll take the pleasure of being one of the first to commence the debate. As long as all the members involved are aware of the polygamy then it should be fine. Other boundaries might need to be drawn to make sure that all members involved are aware of any restrictions to what they can't do then it should be fine. I fell that any relationship need openness and communication to succeed. Polygamy isn't something that I'm personally interested in, but I see no reason to restrict other this freedom.

Right. It should be noted that while I support polygamy, I don't condone the misogyny and coercion of Islamic/FLDS style polygamy.

Polygyny is the legal form of polygamy I gather.

Now are we saying that if there is love between two consenting adults then marriage is acceptable under all circumstances?

Now let me get this straight:

We can all marry whoever we want and as many partners as we want. This means for example our third wife could have another husband. If this is the case then what is the point of marriage?

Why not all just stay single and have multiple partners if we can get them.

What about the one man one woman idea?

Could we even have same sex polygamy?

surely it would be just easier to do away with marriage altogether.

Also what may work in the tribal regions in a foreign continent does not mean it is appropriate in America or Western Europe - or perhaps I am wrong?

Enlighten me.
