I ran into this recently. The point is that thinking skills bypasses such things as confirmation bias because it's about how to respond to manipulation attempts and distortions before they become biases. Some of us have studied such things. Having a video makes the learning more real.

Massive Study Involving YouTube Finds 'Pre-Bunking' Inoculates People Against Misinfo

One example

"Pre-bunking", interesting word, I thought that was called "education". I was taught in 10th class German to recognize rhetoric methods.

Used to teach my primary school aged kids skills we called 'critical reading'.
Long story short, evaluating non-factual words to determine motivation and bias.

Do kids today still learn it? Have you learned it at school? My guess is that everyone has had some critical thinking skill taught but most people forgot.

Given the state of US education today, with its aversion to unsettling, unconventional, or controversial ideas; to science, and its fear of what critical thinking skills might lead to, I'm not surprised at the general cluelessness I see around me.

Keeping the sheeple dumb, docile and emotionally manipulable does play into the agenda of certain political interests, though.

I agree partially. In red states, like Texas, idiocy is on the curriculum. But I doubt that is everywhere.

Yeah, but I'm out of the profession now, so I might be missing some nuance in how.
Still, it's part of the curriculum framework. Refer to the 'Critical Thinking' part of this source :

I remember close reading exercises in English classes where we looked at the use of language and how we might determine whether a writer is attempting to be objective or whether a piece is "persuasion" or advocacy. Whose perspectives are centred and whose opinions are considered valid. What and who is included by the piece and what and who are excluded. Etc.

Going to art school was the best education in critical idea assessment of any area of study I've ever encountered. Even philosophy has it's built in blind spots. But art dealt with every possible kind of idea, bias, intent, and execution imaginable. In every possible medium and social context.

It's why the first area of human endeavor the fascists try to control or eliminate is art. It's the heart of free thought, free expression, and free speech. And especially of critical idea assessment.
