Emergency room doctors at Ascension Seton Williamson in Texas handed her a pamphlet on miscarriage and told her to “let nature take its course” before discharging her without treatment for her ectopic pregnancy.
<...>
Two women – one in Florida and one in Texas – were left to miscarry in public restrooms. In Arkansas, a woman went into septic shock and her fetus died after an emergency room sent her home. At least four other women with ectopic pregnancies had trouble getting any treatment, including one California woman who needed a blood transfusion after she sat for nine hours in an emergency waiting room.
<...>
“The doctors knew I needed an abortion, but these bans are making it nearly impossible to get basic emergency healthcare,” she said in a statement. “I’m filing this complaint because women like me deserve justice and accountability from those that hurt us.”
<...>
In Florida, a 15-week pregnant woman leaked amniotic fluid for an hour in Broward Health Coral Springs’ emergency wait room, according to federal documents. An ultrasound revealed the patient had no amniotic fluid surrounding the fetus, a dangerous situation that can cause serious infection.
The woman miscarried in a public bathroom that day, after the emergency room doctor listed her condition as “improved” and discharged her, without consulting the hospital’s OB-GYN.

I believe this is absolutely unconscionable. I hope the courts find it to be, as well.

**legal definition of unconscionable:
Unconscionable is an adjective that means without a conscience; unscrupulous; so unfair or unjust that it shocks the conscience. The adjective is frequently used in the context of contract law for contracts that have grossly oppressive and unfair terms. When a court finds a contract unconscionable, it is unenforceable..

I guessed this sort of thing would happen, it's sad to see that it actually has. It won't get any better while these stupid laws are in force.

You missed this, which in my mind is absolutely disgusting:

The Biden administration says hospitals must offer abortions when needed to save a woman’s life, despite state bans enacted after the Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to an abortion more than two years ago. Texas is challenging that guidance and, earlier this summer, the Supreme Court declined to resolve the issue.

The Supreme Court caused this issue and the confusion surrounding it, and now refuses to get involved? How low can these "justices" go?

Legislators & courts gave doctors a terrible choice.
Perform a needed service, & then be prohibited from practicing medicine because of prosecution.
Or deny the service, but be able to continue performing other needed services.

Then it falls first to legislators, and then to courts, to fix it! A Democratic Administration, House and Senate may very well do that. Republicans, fuggedaboudit!

well that's horrible. It's too bad choice A or choice B (democrat or republican) are both bad choices
When it comes to stuff like this, no they are not both bad. Reps want to come between providers and patients, and in numerous areas. That is bad. Dems aren't the ones out to ban healthcare, that was some Reps in Florida who wanted to ban the Covid vaccine.

Please forgive my intrusion here, I am not from North America and am neither informed or particularly interested in its politics. The title however caught my eye and did indeed sadden me.

I grew up in a poor and pretty rough area, but although I do not recall it being expressed, we all knew that a pregnant women was sacred. No other way to say it, sacred. Expense was not an issue, nor did it matter how you might be put out. Quite simply, some things have priority.

I miss those times.

But the OP also mentioned California. Curious how that can be.

I noticed that too. But the article described her as a "California woman", but it did not say the incident took place in California.
Although it's hard to be certain, it appears that the California woman was traveling. I think, actually, in Arkansas, if the article is written properly.

Interesting how the forum Trump supporters are avoiding this topic. Abortion has turned out to be a losing policy for republicans, and now they want to pretend it's not an issue. This issue was a huge motivating mission for Trump in 2016, and conservatives answered. Now that they have what they wanted, they can't believe it. SCOTUS went too far, and now they have regrets.

Seems like far right madness know no bounds in my view.

I mean they'd rather make a noise about free tampons than pregnant women being endangered.

In the U.S. over 250,000 people die from medical errors each year making it the third leading cause of death. So why is it surprising that a dozen of them might be pregnancy related? And why cherry pick only those in red states for this article? And why not address the number of women who die during abortions or afterwards from complications?

Turning away a woman who needs emergency care is a legal error, not a medical error in my view.

But grand logic that says because some people die others should too in my view.
And why cherry pick only those in red states for this article?
Didnt happen in my view.

Don't know what your talking about.

There is a law or act that prohibits an ER from turning away people in emergency situations.
Those people should check into that.

As for the Dr's, so much for their hippocratic oath.

Let's blame the doctors for being forced by right leaning judges to follow self contradictory laws am I right?
