Premature Lap...

Cooky

Thanks, Terry, I do appreciate it. I am on day 11 now and have the last of my carton sitting on the kitchen table to remind me to take them back for the $75.00 refund in the morrow. I can hardly wait to finally give up the patch too. This breathing is SO cool!

You're an inspiration to me. I quit for a year in 2009, it was one of the best years of my life, and I regret picking it back up again so foolishly... I really had no reason to do that aside from me being a young idiot.

Kudos to you.

Day 13 ... yes, I'm still pinching myself. So far, no real problems.

Two days ago, I took advantage of a break in the rain to go out and cleanup my two smoking areas. They are now taken down and returned to their original purpose. Yesterday, with more than a little glee and euphoria, I made a special trip down to the store to return the remains of the carton of cigarettes I had bought in the last few weeks. I never gave it a thought when I gave the cashiers $130.00 Can but it seemed ultra cool for them to give me a $108.00 refund. That bought dinner and filled the gas-tank with loads left over.

At almost the 2 week mark, I am almost ready to claim victory on this challenge to quit. I simply have zero desire to have a cigarette and remember too well that they were what was making me feel bad to begin with.

Sometime after noon yesterday, my patch fell off onto the ground outside and I did not replace it till about 8pm.
I'll still continue with the patches, but I'd say the largest struggle - to replace the established behaviors - is pretty well completed now.

Amount saved thus far: 13 x 12.50 = $162.50 + $108.00 refund = $274.00 (which will pay for the carpets to be cleaned!)

I am So loving this...

Now, I'm asking myself why I didn't do this 20 years ago. *sigh*

Am I getting used to this now?

I had to login to RF twice before I realized I didn't comment about day 15 of quitting smoking. LOL.

Had a freaky thing happen yesterday. I was on the phone with a friend, sitting on the couch, went to get up, and as I did my hand instantly reached to where my cigarette pack would normally have been to fish out a cigarette. For a nanosecond I puzzled over what my hand was trying to do seemly of its own accord.... :eek:o_O:confused:. It happened so fast. I wasn't even aware of the impulse before I was doing it. Too weird! I did not follow through with the action, but was quite taken back how it all just happened. No thought involved. (My fingertips were literally moving about as if readying to take out a smoke. Learned behavior or what... )

Best of luck as I know how hard it is to give it up. Just remember you can't have "just one".

It is now day 25 and I am feeling especially sassy. I have only 6 patches left, all neatly stacked on the calendar on the kitchen table. I realize it's almost showtime, the finale, rather, and I might be a bit on edge once the nicotine from the patches wears off. The thing that makes me feel fairly good though is being fully aware of how cigarettes were making me feel. I would have to be a lunatic to smoke another. You don't get a nice built in reason to not have "just one" that often.

The main thing though is that the patches have given me the "room" or ability to change deeply ingrained habits. I've now changed them, though I might sneak out at 4:30AM some rainy and windy morning for old times sake and just stand there. NOT!

On to day 26 ... :)

Superb achievement, keep going

Have you thought about buying more patches (just in case) or have you set your target?

If this keeps up, we'll have to start calling you "Smokeless"
behind your back, instead of "Old Smokey". It's a downer,
but at least you'll live longer.

Im going to try cold turkey after the final patch. If I have problems I'll remember the gum.
My mom used the gum for while (it worked). She used to break the pellets in two and have one half at a time.

Good to know. For the last patches, I'm changing them when I remember (long after the 24 hours) to help ease into it. *laughs nervously*

I still can't get over how fricken excited I am about this!

Hows the cold turkey going?
After a VERY stressful time due to a WAVE of wind storm fronts coming through the region, I have had no desire, whatsoever, for a cigarette!!!!!

(I"m talking, no power, no water, no food for 2 days before I left the island to go stay with friends on the big island and yes, I did come a bit unglued at one point (to say the least) and a cigarette was the last thing on my mind.)

@columbus had me a bit freaked out over the final patch stage, but I've had no issues, other than being unable to eat, period.
I'm drinking Boost and eating whatever I can choke down and getting by... barely.
